Description
The Social Media Manager will develop and manage the social media
strategy and maintain a multi-channel social media calendar for the
main University social media accounts, identifying short- and
long-range priorities and goals to elevate Husson University's
presence and following. The Social Media Manager will create
thoughtful, engaging and meaningful content for social channels to
help elevate and expand the image of Husson; cultivate a strong
following, engagement, and promotion of the University brand to
various audiences.
Examples of Duties
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain a strategic plan for social media accounts, identifying goals for the coming year.
- Develop and manage social content calendar for the primary university social media accounts which includes Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok as well as other accounts as they become priorities using the unique aspects of each platform.
- Work collaboratively with the Marketing and Communications team and University stakeholders to produce high-quality and engaging written and visual content.
- Collaborate with enrollment, Student Life, and Marketing and Communications colleagues to ensure social calendar aligns with email, advertising, and other scheduled marketing efforts.
- Manage University social media accounts as well as day-to-day online and social media activity to promote recruitment, retention, engagement, brand awareness and advancement as well as provide customer service for students and alumni.
- Create social media content of all kinds - text, photos, stories, video, animations - and post the digital content required by the social calendar, including copy, images, and video; work in partnership with marketing and communications team colleagues when needed; u se an analytical, data driven approach to evaluate and review efficacy of content.
- Cover and/or coordinate coverage of University events designated for social media.
- Develop successful relationships with faculty, students, staff, and administrators to build social media, new media and website content. Guide and engage campus partners in developing user-generated content and coordinate any recommended takeovers.
- Monitor and track online alerts, social media sites and comments. Manage any online discussions and craft responses as needed. Assists in crisis response and monitoring.
- Manage Husson University's Social Media User's Group and maintain role as social media lead to advise offices using social media across campus.
- Work collaboratively to analyze web and social media traffic metrics. Report on important metrics; adapt and make recommendations for improvement based on analysis.
- Stay informed about industry competitors and current best-practices and trends in social media and digital marketing.
- May assist with content production on assigned web pages.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Typical Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
- Expertise in and demonstrated ability to manage multiple business social media accounts, including, but not limited to: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube.
- Extensive knowledge of social media platforms, best practices, trends and algorithms.
- Demonstrated ability to use social media management tools such as Sprout Social.
- Proficiency in gathering social media analytics and reporting.
- Ability to understand and adapt writing style for audience and social media platform.
- Demonstrated ability to select and/or capture compelling images and video.
- Experience with Adobe Suite/Canva and design/layout principles for social media platforms.
- Experience in decision-making concerning complex or sensitive content
- Content planning and strategy. Advanced writing, editing and proofreading skills.
- Experience with content management software and systems and understanding of web publishing requirements.
- Project management skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal stakeholders.
- May include evening and weekends as necessary for specific special events.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Supplemental Information
Education: Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing,
journalism, public relations, advertising, English or related
fields preferred, or relevant experience.
Experience: Two years of relevant professional experience
using Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and Twitter to promote
a business, nonprofit or educational institution. Experience using
social media management tools, e.g., Sprout Social or Hootsuite.
Experience using Adobe Creative Suite/Canva software.
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities: Must be able to work
independently with minimal supervision. Must have excellent written
and oral communication skills and be proficient with the full range
of Microsoft Office, social media platforms and products. Attention
to detail, good judgment and mature decision-making abilities
required. Evening and weekend work, as well as some travel with
overnight stays may be required. Knowledge of Husson University,
the city of Bangor, and the State of Maine is preferred.
