Job Description

The department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is seeking a part time instructor to teach BUA / CEE 361 – Evolution of an Infrastructure Project.

Course description: This is the second course in the multi-disciplinary Infrastructure, Cities and the Future minor that combines material from the disciplines of business, engineering, policy, design, and information science and applies this content to the study of infrastructure management and development. This course is designed to introduce students to the key concepts associated with the life cycle of an infrastructure project. The timeline of the subjects covered in the course follows the timeline of a typical infrastructure project. A highlight of the course is guest lectures from infrastructure industry professionals. It is anticipated that after completion of this course, students will have the necessary theoretical foundation to excel in an internship program.

Master’s degree or equivalent

Job Specific Qualifications

- Must have good communication skills
- Industry experience in areas related to infrastructure, such as but not limited to urban development, smart cities, construction, funding, and engineering
- Detailed knowledge about the current and historic role of infrastructure and society, including the political, sociological, and ethical aspects of infrastructure, the current state and challenges to current US and global infrastructure, and related areas such as sustainability and smart cities
- Must be available and willing to teach throughout entire Fall semester
- Prior university-level teaching in a related area is preferred

Responsibilities

- Updating course syllabus in line with overall course goals and minor program objectives, in collaboration with Whitman School of Management and College of Engineering and Computer Science
- Preparation of lectures, projects, guest lecturers, and other student assignments
- Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours
- Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance level of the course
- Meeting all designated class periods
- Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to university regulations and school/college-level policies
- Providing departmentally sanctioned form for completing student evaluations
- Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner
- Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty members
- Other responsibilities as indicated.
