Syracuse University’s School of Information Studies (iSchool) is currently in search of a Career Development & Immersion Specialist. The iSchool seeks a professional candidate who can deliver both career counseling and career-related coordination strategies for undergraduate/graduate students including workshops and classroom presentations. In addition, they will assist with maintaining the iSchool’s portion of career-related virtual platforms such as Handshake, Vmock, and Big Interview. Qualifications

Responsibilities
(40%) Career Development & Counseling:
  • Provide Career counseling to individuals or small groups, as well as provide drop-in counseling
  • Counsel School of Information Studies students through the utilization of career assessments and career development theories, and other appropriate methods to guide them for internship/job placement
  • Create and deliver presentations and workshops specifically designed to help School of Information Studies students earn internships/jobs
  • Facilitate students’ transition out of the university through job search strategies including resume assistance, interviewing techniques, etc.
  • Assist in conducting workshops and presentations related to above areas and all career-related events. May include evenings and weekends during peak times (September/October & January/February).
(40%) Immersion Experience Component:
  • Organize and coordinate immersion trips (TechTreks, CareerTreks, and other ‘on the road’ career experiences for students).
  • Collaborate with SU Abroad, Risk Management, and other campus partners to ensure travel logistics are successfully executed.
  • Communicate with employers and industry partners to set-up physical and/or virtual site visits.
  • Partner with the iSchool’s communications team to market and advertise immersion trips and other events, including student recruitment.
  • Consult with Director of Career Services and Experiential Learning on experiential learning and immersion programs from initial planning phases to execution.
  • Work closely with the Director and other internal/external partners on enhancing current immersion/experiential programming and creating new programs.
(20%) Career Services Coordination:
  • Manage Handshake Jobs/internships to enhance the virtual career management system for our students; attend webinars with Handshake and manage backend of software to ensure best practice and functionality of subscription; work with Job/internship management, job/internship postings, and use of Handshake for iSchool Jobs as recruitment for Career Fair
  • Solve career services issues and support a partnership with employer relations and alumni affairs with outreach, workshops, tabling, and other recruitment events
  • Assist in the implementation of multiple career fairs and employer networking sessions
  • Coordinate with other career services partners on campus to ensure best practices for Vmock and Big Interview platforms.
