Position Summary
The Dallas College Facilities Management Department supports the facilities related needs for the College while providing responsible stewardship and efficient operation of the College's physical assets. The Facilities Management Department is responsible for approximately 5m sq. ft. of physical space and over 1400 acres of land, located across multiple locations in Dallas County. The position of Construction Trades Technician supports that effort through the performance of work in carpentry, welding, painting, etc.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge and ability to execute and oversee small concrete
replacement projects.
- Advanced knowledge of building construction, blueprints, and
schematics. Knowledge of federal and state building codes is
required.
- Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior in
working with faculty, students, staff, and outside agencies
associated.
- Ability to supervise staff.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to
interact with diverse internal/external stakeholders and
constituents.
- Must be able to execute a project from beginning to end
leveraging multiple trades and skills.
Requires sitting, standing, walking, bending over, stooping, twisting, talking, hearing, climbing ladders, using stairs, reaching overhead, crouching, kneeling, or crawling. Pushing or pulling 10-50 lbs., lifting 10-80 lbs., carrying 10-50 lbs., repetitive use of arms and legs, driving, balancing, manual dexterity-fine manipulation or grasping. May require working in adverse weather conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associates Degree / Trade School Certificate and eight
(8) years of related experience, or high school diploma and ten
(10) years of work-related experience.
- Two (2) years of supervisor experience.
- Valid Texas driver’s license required.
Key Responsibilities
- Promotes a diverse customer focused environment. Maintains safe
work practices for all areas supervised.
- Resolves challenges and problems that arise from daily
operations. Oversees quality control standards in all areas
assigned.
- Responsible for all aspects of in-house construction projects
to include remodeling, framing, doors, windows, drop ceilings,
electrical, plumbing, and carpet and drywall installations.
- Resolves challenges and problems that arise from daily
operations. Oversees quality control standards in all areas
assigned. Advanced knowledge of building construction, blueprints,
and schematics. Knowledge of federal and state building codes is
required.
- Responsible for the maintenance of records, the preparation of
reports and the procurement of supplies, tools, materials, and
equipment.
- Coordinates the completion of work orders, estimation of
materials, labor costs and equipment needed when ordering materials
and supplies. This is a working supervisor position.
- Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior in
working with faculty, students, staff, and outside agencies
associated.
- Assists with annual budget preparation and continual
monitoring/adjustment throughout the year.
- Ensure the highest quality of construction and interior finish
work across Dallas College.
- Assist Facilities Management leadership in prioritizing
construction related maintenance projects and supervises a team of
technicians.
- Responsible for development and execution of assigned
budget.
- Works with other Facilities Management employees to ensure the
highest level of customer service.
- Provides safe and healthy buildings for Dallas College
students, faculty, and staff.
- Assists other Facilities Management teams as required.
- Completes required Dallas College Professional Development
training hours per academic year.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
