The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures (EALC) at Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Visiting Assistant Professor for the 2023-2024 academic year, starting August 1, 2023.

We welcome applications from scholars who primary field of research and teaching is premodern Japanese literature, broadly defined, to teach four courses (2 courses each semester), including Literary/Classical Japanese. Candidates should indicate in their cover letters other relevant courses they are interested in offering. We welcome interest in teaching Translating Japanese Literature.

The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures is committed to hiring candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and service. The position will begin August 1, 2023.

Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in hand in Japanese literature. The candidate should have native or near-native proficiency in both Japanese and English with prior experience and demonstrated success in teaching at the college level in the United States.
