The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Instructor, Engineering, De Anza College.

The Foothill - De Anza Community College District does not have a remote work policy. All employees are expected to be available to work in person and on-site per the requirement of the department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:

Under the direction of the Dean of Physical Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering, instruct community college engineering courses to a diverse student population. Engineering courses range from introductory to discipline specific such as circuits, materials, and energy. Revise and develop curriculum as it relates to the discipline, including multicultural perspectives and contributions where appropriate. Design, prepare, and teach hands-on laboratory activities. Initiate and participate in the development of grant proposals. Perform and coordinate outreach to local high schools to attract students to engineering.

Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, maintain schedule office hours, participation in department and division responsibilities, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, and preforming other duties consistent with the role of an instructor. Instructors also have the opportunity to serve on district and college committees and participate in campus extra-curricular activities. Teaching assignments may include days, evenings, in person, online, or any combination of those.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
  2. Master's degree in any field of engineering OR Bachelor's degree in any field of engineering AND Master's in mathematics, physics, computer science, chemistry, or geology, OR the equivalent. (NOTE: A Bachelor's degree in any field of engineering with professional engineer's license is an alternative qualification for this discipline, pursuant of title 5, section 53410.1.)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Practice student-centered and equity-minded pedagogies in accordance with established course outlines and use high-impact strategies that serve all students including underserved and disproportionately impacted students (i.e., Latinx, African Ancestry, Filipinx, Veterans, Foster Youth, Disabled Students, First-Generation Students, LGBTQ+, and Low-income students);
  2. Master's degree or higher in engineering.
  3. Ability to clearly express complex ideas in oral and written formats.
  4. Experience teaching engineering or related college level courses.
  5. Commitment to and experience in laboratory instruction.
  6. Teaching pedagogy adaptable to a variety of learning styles including inquiry based, interactive multimedia, internet resources and online assessment tools.
  7. Experience in developing innovative engineering curricula.
  8. Prior grant proposal submittal experience
  9. Ability to work closely and cooperatively with faculty and support staff.
  10. Ability to mentor adjunct faculty within the discipline.
  11. Ability to communicate articulately and effectively with individuals differing in age, gender, ethnicity, educational, and economic background.
  12. Ability to encourage students to engage in their own learning and motivate them to develop critical thinking skills.
  13. Ability to change systems of teaching delivery to meet differing student needs and able to adapt to change easily.
  14. Experience with performing outreach to high schools to attract students to engineering and science.

HIRING RANGE: $53,730.00 - $88,243.00 annually plus benefits; actual placement is based on applicant's verified education and experience.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time, Tenure-track, 10-months per year
