Position Summary

The Department of Pediatrics , Division of General Pediatrics is looking for a Program Coordinator to assist with the WNY Children’s Environmental Center. This study funded by New York State is examining environmental health issues involving children, schools, health care providers, community coalitions and community-based organizations and public health agencies.

We are looking for someone with a strong public health background who is passionate about community engagement, advocacy, and health equity. This position reports to the Medical Director of the WNY Children’s Environmental Health Center.

Job Responsibilities:
Planning and carrying out grant-related projects in the region to help advance the goals of the New York State Children’s Environmental Health Center, with a focus on the following activities:

Education and Training: Work with health care professionals, pediatric residents, medical students, public health students and other relevant disciplines to incorporate community health and environmental health into routine health care. Specific work may include curriculum coordination, curriculum evaluation, conference coordination, trainee schedule coordination, and community partner collaboration.

Community Partnerships: Collaborate with community-based organizations to promote programs and policies that protect and improve children’s health. Specific work may include communication with community partners and outreach.
  • Coordinate community health program planning, implementation, and evaluation. Assist with grant applications for additional funding of specified projects. This may include developing proposal outlines, checklists, and timelines to facilitate proposal planning; organizing meetings and follow up with interdisciplinary teams.
Environmental Health Screening: Assist center in the integration of environmental screening into routine well child care. Specific work may include reviewing completed screeners, evaluating process outcomes, and maintaining resource distribution for positive screens.
Communicating with the Network Center based at Mt. Sinai and other collaborating centers throughout the state regarding mutual activities and local inputs. This includes:
  • Assist Center Coordinator with composing and submitting quarterly grant reports and other grant required paperwork.
  • Assist Center Coordinator with grant budget, purchasing and expenses according to required guidelines.
Skills:
Individuals in this role must have a strong understanding of public health and community engagement. Skills include: time management, attention to detail, strong communication skills both remotely (ie, Zoom, email, phone) and in-person. Individuals in this role must be adept problem-solvers who are able to coordinate multiple projects. The individual should be able to
work independently and collaboratively with faculty, trainees, and community-based organizations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in any field and up to 2 years related experience
  • The individual should possess strong interpersonal communication and critical-thinking skills, as well as an ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment.
  • A strong knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential, in addition to excellent project and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in public health or equivalent.
  • 1 or more years of public health programming experience.

$45,000 - $50,000
