Responsibilities
The Director of Annual Giving reports to and works as a thought partner with the Executive Director of Annual Giving to strategize and implement new and existing annual giving programs for Saint Mary's College of California (SMC). The Director of Annual Giving will lead specific programs targeting specific audiences and channels. Preference for someone with annual giving, marketing or sales analysis.
1. In collaboration with other SPA colleagues, and campus partners and appropriate vendors - design and implement short and long-term, cross-channel communications plans for alumni, donors, parents, and friends of Saint Mary's College.
2. Collaborate with the major and mid-range giving team to facilitate integrated approaches to cultivation, solicitation of donors and prospects, as it relates to annual giving.
3. Coordinate with Alumni & Engagement and Athletics on the timing and messaging for annual giving.
4. With the ED of Annual Giving, forecast and manage the program's revenue goals and budget. Analyze campaign performance and create visualizations to present data and proposed optimizations. Provide monthly updates on financial, web, and marketing performance vs goals, product wins/opportunities, testing results and go forward plans.
5. Manage invoicing, monitor the main AG phone and email account, serve as back up with opening office mail, and other administrative responsibilities.
Experience and Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: REQUIRED: PREFERRED:
Experience: (years required and applicable field of experience): 4 - 7 years experience in advancement role, public relations, marketing, communication, and/or similar activities; or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Exceptional writing, administrative, and interpersonal skills required.
Skills/Abilities: (e.g. computer skills, written & verbal skills, trades, laws, procedures, technical)
- Knowledgeable of current best practices in annual giving and
fundraising, direct marketing and volunteer management programs and
practices used in higher education
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,
Powerpoint)
- Advanced ability with Google Mail; Google Calendar; Google
Documents
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, take
initiative and meet deadlines
- Strong analytical, organizational, time management and customer
service skills
- Ability to manage highly sensitive financial and other personal
information with confidentiality
- Demonstrated flexibility, and collaborative approach
- Be willing to work creatively and collaboratively within the
SPA team
- Prior experience in solicitation and volunteer
management
- Creative, conceptual and donor-centric thinking as well as deep
technical understanding. Ability to bridge technical expertise with
design-thinking donor experience to deliver efficient
solutions.
- Experience working with cross-functional groups to create
meaningful conversion opportunities that tie to and support
philanthropic/business goals and objectives.
- A dedication to and understanding of the skills required to
build relationships with diverse communities.
- Experience utilizing key metrics to make data-driven decisions
for target marketing and performance reporting.
- Commitment to appropriate use of sensitive and confidential
constituent data. Familiarity with relevant email and privacy laws.
Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge and
skills to stay abreast of best practices and regulatory/policy
changes.
