Winston-Salem State University department of Healthcare Management is seeking adjunct professors to teach Master of Healthcare Administration distance learning courses listed below:

Course 1:
Strategic Planning & Marketing :
MHA - 6405 WC Strategic Planning & Marketing

This course addresses the top executive’s responsibility, employing the Seven-Stage Model of Strategic Planning and Marketing, providing a road map for leading and implementing the strategic plan and supporting marketing action plans. Topics include competitive analysis, determination of key business proposition, planning strategy, aligning strategy with structure, linking day-to-day operations with strategy, fitting marketing to strategy, implementing strategy and marketing plans, and monitoring results and adjusting strategy and marketing as necessary.

Course 2
Health Law, Ethics and Policy

This course provides an introduction to health legislation, programs and their implications for providers and consumers. Legal principles and issues are addressed for medical case workers, healthcare facilities and staff for injuries to patients and abuse of patient rights by the healthcare system. Topics include malpractice suits and legislation, collection of bills, labor laws, and informed consent. Healthcare ethics and moral principles will be addressed. The course examines important aspects of healthcare related policies and takes a broad approach to the study of health policy and law, including healthcare, public health and bioethical issues in the United States

Course 3
Healthcare Information Systems Management

This course provides students with an understanding of how information systems and technology are applied in healthcare management. The course focuses on the leader’s responsibility for the provision of appropriate information systems. Information systems planning and implementation are addressed. The evaluation, justification, and selection of information systems, including software, hardware, and network components are addressed. How information systems support management decision analysis/making, service and clinical quality, and population health are discussed. Other key topics include: required competencies of CIO and IT staff, system privacy, security, and ethics, healthcare information/data management, clinical information systems/electronic medical records, health IT software selection, meaningful use, HITECH and PPACA .

Course 4
Healthcare Professional Relations

This course focuses on the ability of leaders to establish and maintain relationships, and communicate clearly and concisely with internal and external customers. Key subjects addressed include: building collaborative relationships; demonstrating interpersonal competency; developing and maintaining patient, board of directors, medical staff, nursing, allied health, and employee relationships; identifying stakeholder needs/expectations; and practicing shared decision making. Identifying underserved patients’ needs/expectations, incorporating the views of stakeholders in decisions that affect the quality of care, work environment and business stability; following through on promises; providing service recovery to dissatisfied customers, and holding individuals accountable for their actions are also addressed.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The WSSU Master of Healthcare Administration ( MHA ) program is a full-time distance learning program that strives to increase the participation of underrepresented populations in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina. The MHA program provides a comprehensive graduate experience designed to meet the needs of working professionals who are in the early stages of their careers. Led by a mixture of faculty drawn from academic and professional backgrounds, students gain competencies in management and business functions that are applicable to a wide range of healthcare organizations.

Minimum Experience/Education

Master’s degree is required, in Health Care or related field, from an accredited institution of higher learning. Professional experience in Health Services Management and Higher Education teaching experience preferred.

Distance Learning Courses are held once a week 6:00pm- 8:30 pm

The Healthcare Management Department is seeking applicants who are organized, prepared, and capable of communicating clearly and effectively with students and colleagues. All applicants are required to utilize Brightspace- D2L platform, and zoom. Although training is available, experience is preferred.

Adequately prepare all course materials and lesson for healthcare administration course. Provide each student with clear course expectations, evaluations, timelines, and approved syllabus. Provide engaging and relevant assignments for students that demonstrate learning outcomes. Suitably challenge, engage, serve, and communicate with students to encourage participation and learning while fostering mutual value and respect. Complete grade books, mid-term and final grade submissions, learning assessments, and final exam assessments on a timely basis, and respond to student questions on a timely basis. Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus.
