About the Opportunity

About the Opportunity:

The Department of Music in the College of Arts, Media and Design at Northeastern University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, Teaching Professor, or Professor of the Practice, commensurate with qualifications and experience. We seek an experienced college-level educator and advisor with an advanced degree in interdisciplinary music studies or the equivalent, and/or with a strong background in cross-disciplinary approaches to teaching, advising and curriculum design. The successful candidate will play a leadership role in the Department's academic programs, assist in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in preparation for a flexible array of future professional opportunities, and support Northeastern University's traditional strengths in experiential education. The anticipated start date for this position is Fall 2023.

Responsibilities:

Duties for this position will include 1) teaching and further development of the Department of Music's uniquely innovative survey course—Music in Everyday Life; 2) teaching and further development of the first-year foundational “Music at Northeastern” course; 3) varied additional assignments in teaching—and bringing new and diverse perspectives to—other foundational offerings in music fundamentals, theory and history; 5) assisting music and college staff in providing support for the program's uniquely flexible approach to advising a wide array of music majors, combined majors and minors; 6) and assisting the Music chair in the recruiting and retention of applicants to the music program.

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a terminal degree (ex. PhD) in interdisciplinary or integrated music studies and/or a strong background in trans-disciplinary curriculum design and implementation by the start of employment. Required qualifications also include at least two years of full-time teaching experience at all levels. Position level will be commensurate with qualifications/experience.

Additional Information:

Candidates are required to submit a CV, cover letter, and names of three references. Additional materials and letters of recommendation may be solicited at a later date.

In your cover letter, please discuss your research/professional interests and activities and how they fit into the interdisciplinary focus of this position, your teaching philosophy and experience, and how you can support our commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment for faculty, staff, and students.
