Job Summary:

The Rollins College Maintenance team, within Facilities Services, is seeking a Plumber to join their crew! The Plumber will work with Rollins' Lead Plumber to perform basic and routine maintenance, service, repair, and installation of college facility's equipment and systems, primary within the plumbing field.
  • Performs routine service and make basic repairs to existing installations of water, waste disposal, HVAC systems, and minor electrical systems. Examples, unclogging drains, finding and fixing leaks, replacing garbage disposals, etc.
  • Performs maintenance and minor repair work on hot water heaters and boiler systems including cleaning strainers, flushing coils, replacing heating elements, etc.
  • Manages the plumbing department in the absence of the lead plumber. For example, when the lead is on PTO.
  • Maintains supply of personal tools required to perform the work. Understand the use and how to setup plumbing specific tools.
  • Performs hand excavation and backfill for installation of underground plumbing, waste piping, and storm piping.
  • Picks up and delivers parts/equipment as needed.
  • Assists other departments as needed, including event setups and tear-downs.

Minimum Education
& Experience:



  • High school education.
  • Minimum of 1 year of skilled trade experience (i.e. electrical, HVAC, etc.); plumbing experience being preferred.
  • Possess a valid driver's license, or ability to obtain a Florida driver's license within 30 days of accepting the job, and an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) are required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of tools, techniques and procedures of miscellaneous plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry repairs, and installation.
  • Ability to handle, lift and/or carry heavy objects and equipment. Along with the ability to climb ladders and use lifts with a harness.
  • Demonstrated aptitude toward workplace safety.
  • Demonstrates cross-cultural awareness and communication skills to maximize effective collaboration across diverse groups on-campus.
  • Models and deliveries on the Rollins' service philosophy through competent, collaborative, responsive and respectful service to others.
  • Demonstrates ability to work professionally with staff, faculty, students and external constituents at all levels.
  • Exhibits sound judgment and the ability to make reasonable decisions in the absence of direction.
  • Demonstrates ability to use tact and good judgment in resolving work problems.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities without loss of composure.
  • Demonstrates ability to balance conflicting priorities in order to manage workflow, ensure the completion of essential projects, and meet critical deadlines.
  • Demonstrates ability to determine the appropriate allocation of time to complete tasks and projects.
  • Demonstrates proficiency to quickly adapt to workplace changes and learn new skills (i.e. technology, processes, tasks, projects, etc...)
  • Complies with all department policies, procedures and service delivery expectations.

Work Schedule:

The Plumber is scheduled to work 7.5 hours/day, 37.5 hours per week. The schedule for this role is:
  • Monday - Friday, 7:00am to 3:00pm (with a 1 hour paid lunch)

As a condition of employment in this position, the incumbent will be subject to call in outside of regular hours in order to respond to emergencies, including the preparation and maintenance of College facilities, grounds, systems and services during inclement weather crises.

The Plumber will also be required to carry on-call phone in one-week intervals 2-4 times during the year.

*Works overtime, special events and weekends may be required as needed.

Work Environment:
  • Works on-campus at multiple work sites including indoors and outdoors.
  • Work requires physical exertion and exposure to both hot and cold weather.
  • Physical ability to perform strenuous work, including lifting heavy objects, and the ability to stand or stoop for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be punctual and reliable; daily attendance is required.
