About the Opportunity

Job Summary:

In the New England Inflammation and Tissue Protection Institute (NEITPI), under the direction of Dr. Michail Sitkovsky, the Associate Research Scientist will independently perform basic or applied research of considerably higher scope and complexity in the field of immunology. The Associate Research Scientist will conduct sophisticated experiments with CAR-T cells and polyclonal T cells against tumors by taking advantage of previous professional knowledge. Significant bench level experience during in vitro and in vivo assays is ideal, in addition to experience in immuno-oncology. Responsibilities will include the generation of data and analysis of immunological responses of novel cancer immunotherapies with clinical relevance. This research also has major implications for the treatments of infectious diseases, including COVID-19, by developing superior immunotherapeutic methods and utilizing novel humanized mouse and hamster models. Incumbent will employ methods of flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, ELISA, qRT-PCR, mammalian cell-culture, and cell-based assays to evaluate novel treatment strategies during in vivo mouse cancer immunotherapy models. Experience in analysis of the tumor microenvironment on the level of cytokines and chemokines is a plus. Incumbent will also be responsible for assisting in preparation of grant proposals, publications, and planning future experimental approaches. Associate Research Scientist will offer supervision of graduate/undergraduate research team and transfer of technical expertise to students, as well as attend meetings and present research findings.

Responsibilities:

Major responsibilities: Perform research (55%); write for publication (10%); draft new grants (20%); supervisor graduate students (10%) and purchasing and budget administration (5%).
  • Perform basic immunological research with clinical implications to treatment of immunological diseases such as autoimmunity and treatment of cancer by developing superior immunotherapy methods.
  • Employing techniques of flow cytometry, immunohistochemical, ELISA, qPCR and in vitro cell based assays to address fundamental bioechemical and immunological barriers in the tumor microenvironment the contribute to immune suppression.
  • Analysis of tumor microenvironment on the level of cytokines and chemokines.


Qualifications:

Must have Ph.D or B.S. with 2+ years research experience, progressively more responsible experience that demonstrates the ability to plan and execute research; previous supervisory experience.
  • Experience in immunology and biochemical/molecular methods
  • Experience in flow cytometry along and/or in vivo mouse research is a plus
  • Experience in in vitro cell based assays and mammalian cell culture
