Job Summary

We are recruiting an ambitious and energetic person with proven business development skills and experience to help us expand our clinical diagnostic laboratory. Reporting to the Director of Drexel Medicine Diagnostics and in collaboration with its leadership team, the Business Development Manager must be able to create and apply an effective business growth strategy that drives sustainable, profitable financial growth through new client acquisition and forging strong relationships with a variety of clients.

Essential Functions

The Business Development Manager plays a vital role in the success of Drexel Medicine Diagnostics including being the external facing contact for the clinical laboratory and a representative of Drexel Medicine, DUCOM and Drexel University.

Business Development
  • Develop comprehensive customer profiles according to the defined customer type model Develop and manage the prospect pipeline and prospect pursuit strategy.
  • Search out and attend business-related networking events.
  • Identify business opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the laboratory’s leadership team to strategize and execute business development plans and marketing projects including regional and national events in support of the laboratory’s ever-evolving testing menu.
  • Work with laboratory leadership to develop cost of service quotes and negotiate contracts.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and thorough documentation of all activities, tasks, contacts, and account management.
  • Sales and Marketing
  • Develop sales presentations that outline the current and potential offerings of the diagnostics laboratory.
  • Develop sales pitches and storylines to match customer needs to DMD features and benefits.
  • Project a professional presence and deliver sales presentations to right-fit partners that promote and sell a range of laboratory testing services including COVID, molecular, genomic, toxicology and more.
  • Conduct market research to recognize potential target markets and trends.
  • Work with the Drexel Medicine and DUCOM marketing teams to expand the diagnostic laboratory’s brand.
  • Work to foster long-term and trusting relationships with customers.
  • Strategic Analysis and Planning.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of the business transformation plan to achieve profitable, financial sustainability and growth.
  • Research competitor development in each market locally, regionally, and nationally and develops leading strategies to compete in each market.
  • Oversee the development and expansion of business strategies.
  • Perform business case analyses and provide possible solutions to improve business procedures.
  • Develop an understanding of the relative regulatory standards across a range of diagnostic services.
  • Effectively handle highly complex work initiatives that span regional and national footprints.
  • Partner with leadership of DUCOM, Drexel Medicine, and both the clinical and research laboratories, and other stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives through successful implementation and completion of strategic initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing or Communication.
  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience.

  • Problem-solving: the ability to develop new ideas that enhance partnership results, is future-oriented and assesses what will help or hinder the achievement of goals, focuses on what is important.

  • Negotiation: can negotiate and influence skillfully and professionally while maintaining relationships.
  • Attitude: displays commitment to the organization and professional growth, self-motivated and able to motivate others.
  • Adaptability: manages behaviors and communication style to meet the needs of a wide ranges of situations, tackles obstacles appropriately, is comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Systems: proficiency with standard office software applications (Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).
