Coordinator-Youth Apprenticeships



Career Launch Chicago is a new public-private partnership that aims to build a robust youth apprenticeship system that connects education and workforce training, launching students into high-demand careers. Career Launch seeks to align education and training between Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), while building on work-based learning systems and relationships that result in youth apprenticeship opportunities for dual-enrolled students. Through Career Launch, CPS and CCC will put in place the tools, processes, and technology to support the successful onboarding, implementation, graduation, and employment for students and employers.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

Reporting to the Director-Career Launch Chicago, the Coordinator - Youth Apprenticeships works in the role of dedicated advocate for Chicago Public Schools (CPS) dual-enrolled high school students participating in a Youth Apprenticeship Program, focusing on supporting students from the point of recruitment and enrollment to the successful completion of a youth apprenticeship.

The position serves as the primary point of contact for apprentices, working to empower students through coaching to achieve academic success; providing a supportive environment that promotes personal and academic growth; and connecting students to support services and resources to support their success and meet their career-readiness needs.

The Coordinator - Youth Apprenticeships serves as a mission-driven expert who works to understand the unique needs, motivations, challenges, and opportunities of each of our apprentices in order to help them find resources to maximize their success.

The position also maintains working relationships with employer partners and the Career Launch Chicago (CLC) team including our CPS partners, working to develop work-based learning opportunities that are aligned with industry workforce needs, CCC’s pathways, and students’ career goals. Performs related duties as required.

NOTE: Position is required to travel on a regular basis to CPS high schools and CCC campuses. Must be able to work one (1) Saturday a month to attend Professional Development sessions for apprentices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Assists apprentices by answering questions, addressing concerns, and walking apprentices through the entire apprenticeship lifecycle.
  • Provides career awareness information to high school students interested in youth apprenticeship opportunities.
  • Maintains and tracks data providing comprehensive evaluations of apprentice activity and interactions to report to the CLC Director.
  • Leads effort to support apprentices by providing coaching, creates resource awareness, and assesses training needs based on feedback, data collected, and common workplace practices.
  • Owns collaboration with CLC team to design tools and processes to successfully implement holistic apprentice support in the program.
  • Supports the development of pipeline of students prepared for work-based learning opportunities.
  • Works as CCC partner with CPS to recruit and onboard students onto the youth apprenticeship.
  • Works collaboratively with school leadership to solve problems related to program implementation.
  • Maintain and support partnerships between CLC and employer partners, balancing the needs of the partners and the development of the Apprentice, using a style of open communication and collaboration.
  • Facilitates collaborative relationships between various CCC departments and CPS partners, engaging stakeholders at all levels of both organizations as well as employer, nonprofit, philanthropic, and other work-based learning partners.
  • Works closely with Director of Career Launch Chicago and CLC team to offer strategic insight into process implementation and progress towards goals.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Master’s degree preferred
  • Two to three years of work experience in program management, youth development, social work, or other comparative life experience
  • Experience having direct accountability for the achievement/outcomes of a group of individuals
  • Comfort with adapting to changing goals and responsibilities
  • Strong understanding of the workforce development landscape and CPS landscape highly desirable
  • Knowledge of CCC academic programs and pathways and dual enrollment programs for high school students
  • A valid State of Illinois driver’s license
  • Must be able to travel frequently to CPS high schools and CCC campuses
  • Passion for supporting students; experience in fostering academic success and career readiness among underserved, diverse student populations a plus
  • Demonstrates attention to detail, initiative, dependability, and commitment to customer service
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
