Job Summary:

Under the indirect supervision of the Digital Transformation Lead and immediate supervision of the Director of Digital Transformation in the Division of Information Technology Services, the Data Architect will assist in the connection to and implementation of API's to access data from multiple campus systems and external sources for use by the Digital Transformation team and other campus entities upon request.

Major duties and responsibilities:
  • Assist in the connection to and implementation of API's to access data from multiple campus systems and external sources for use by the Digital Transformation team and other campus entities upon request.
  • Assist in the integration of third party systems to function with campus systems.
  • Coordinate with programmers to debug, add features, and interact with third-party vendors to implement new changes to university applications including the mobile app.
  • Write, design, and implement APIs to pull/push data to other systems on campus, integrate third party systems to function with campus systems, both on premises and cloud-based.
  • Work with mySQL, Spring, Java, and related technologies to allow the creation and support of data migrations and transformations.
  • Fix bugs, add features and interact with third-party vendors to implement new changes to university web-based applications.
  • Design application programs and structures to meet user requirements that optimize the use of available resources.
  • Consult with users to identify and document purpose, needs and determine overall functional and technical system requirements and specifications.
  • Based on user requirements and needs, select a suitable development methodology and develop succinct, timely programming code, or modify software in a fashion which optimizes programming resources and meets functional user requirements.
  • Analyze data requirements, develop and document data dictionaries, and develop data models.
  • Design database systems and programs which include access methods, device allocation, validation checks, statistical methods and security.
  • Write code and implement functions to meet user specifications, test and debug programs, verify data acquisition, output media, and format.
  • Compose documentation, user guides and materials when necessary.
  • Perform database, file, and code backup, fine tune application server configurations.
  • Structure, implement and maintain database systems to optimize data access and security.
  • Maintain and support assigned operating systems and applications to ensure minimal downtime and loss of productivity and service.
  • Evaluate and enhance the efficiency of existing programs to meet current and future user needs.
  • Upgrades and Training: Implement Application and Support all application upgrades. Train others, troubleshooting and work collaboratively with other divisions at CSUSB.

Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science or business, or equivalent training and applied experience.
  • At least 3 years computer programming experience.
  • Experience with Java, JSON, XML, mySQL.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Oracle database and database SQL language.
  • Good understanding of version control tools including Bitbucket.
  • Experience working in or with higher education.
  • Experience developing RESTful API using Java and Spring.
  • Familiarity with data format JSON and XML.
  • Familiarity with AWS, Docker, Dell Boomi, and Maven.
  • Understanding of Intermediate HTML & CSS

Compensation and Benefits:

Anticipated Hiring Range: $4,678 - $5,350 per month

Classification Salary Range: $4,678 - $11,547 per month

Position Information:

Work status: Full-time/Exempt/Temporary (up to one year with the possibility of further renewal)

Schedule: Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, weekends and evenings may be required.
