Job Summary:

The Rollins College Maintenance team, within Facilities Services, is seeking a Painter to join their crew! The Painter works under the Rollins Lead Painter with limited supervision and performs basic and routine painting, wall repairs, touchups, trim repairs, etc. This is the entry-level to mid-level classification in the painting series.
  • Paint interiors and exteriors of buildings and structures with brush, roller, or spray equipment
    Wash buildings, structures, and sidewalks with high pressure washing equipment
  • Paint traffic markings on campus roads and parking areas
  • Paint furniture and equipment in the spray booth
  • Perform incidental and related duties such as plaster and drywall work, grout tiled surfaces and walls, and glaze windows
  • Complete minor trim and carpentry repairs
  • Assist in event setups including stage and riser setup/tear-down

Minimum Education
& Experience:

  • High school education.
  • A minimum of one year experience painting, construction, and/or other maintenance related work.
  • Possess a valid driver's license, or ability to obtain an Florida driver's license within 30 days of accepting the job, and acceptable MVR are required.
Preferred Education
& Experience:
  • Construction, trade, and/or maintenance education including courses, certificates, training, or licenses.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the standards, methods, materials, and tools of the painting trade.
  • Be able to climb and work from both a-frame and extension types ladders.
  • Be willing and able to work from scaffolding and lifts if/once properly trained.
  • Complies with all department policies, procedures, and service delivery expectations.
  • Demonstrates ability to work professionally with staff, faculty, students, and external constituents at all levels.
  • Exhibits sound judgment and the ability to make reasonable decisions in the absence of direction.
  • Demonstrates ability to use tact and good judgment in resolving work problems.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities without loss of composure.
  • Demonstrates ability to balance conflicting priorities in order to manage workflow, ensure the completion of essential projects, and meet critical deadlines.
  • Demonstrates ability to determine the appropriate allocation of time to complete tasks and projects.
  • Demonstrates proficiency to quickly adapt to workplace changes and learn new skills (i.e. technology, processes, tasks, projects, etc...).
  • Demonstrates cross-cultural awareness and communication skills to maximize effective collaboration across diverse groups on campus.

Work Schedule:

The Painter is scheduled to work 7.5 hours/day, 37.5 hours per week. The schedule for this role is:
  • Monday - Friday, 7:00am to 3:00pm (with a 1 hour paid lunch)

As a condition of employment in this position, the incumbent will be subject to call-in outside of regular hours in order to respond to emergencies, including the preparation and maintenance of College facilities, grounds, systems, and services during inclement weather crises.

The Painter will also be required to carry the on-call phone in one-week intervals 2-4 times during the year.

*Works overtime, special events, and weekends may be required as needed.

Work Environment:
  • Works on-campus at multiple work sites including indoors and outdoors.
  • Work requires physical exertion and exposure to both hot and cold weather.
  • Physical ability to perform strenuous work, including lifting heavy objects, and the ability to stand or stoop for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be punctual and reliable; daily attendance is required.
