Assistant Director for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Outreach



Shenandoah University’s Office of Student Affairs is accepting applications for an Assistant Director for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Outreach . This is a full-time benefited position located on our main campus in Winchester, Virginia. The successful applicant will manage the Not Just Women’s Center and oversee training and education initiatives to deepen and expand Shenandoah’s commitment to inclusion, diversity, and equity. The position will report to the Director of IDE.

The Assistant Director for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Outreach serves as a member of the Division of Student Affairs and promotes awareness, prevention, and response to gender violence, bias, cultural competency, bystander intervention, sexual assault, sexual violence, interpersonal (dating, domestic, and relationship) violence, and stalking.

The Assistant Director for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Outreach will coordinate and partner with the Assistant Dean of IDE and Student Leadership and the Director of IDE in the curriculum development of comprehensive offerings of social justice and diversity training and workshop opportunities for the campus community. Train facilitators across the university. Training and workshops include but are not limited to Safe Zone (sexual and gender diversity), Navigating Intercultural Understanding (Culture 101), and Step UP! Bystander Intervention, Difficult Conversations, and Cultural Competency in the Health Professions.

The Assistant Director for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Outreach, is responsible for providing and developing long- and short-range vision regarding the university’s sexual assault prevention, bystander, and bias education goals.

The Assistant Director of Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity will support and advocate for students engaged in sexual misconduct, Title IX, or bias incident processes.

The Assistant Director for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Outreach will develop resources and provide support to underrepresented students and communities through programming and support services.

The Assistant Director for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Outreach, will oversee training initiatives such as Step Up, Safe Zone, and Bias Training, and assist with the recruitment and training of peer-led leaders to facilitate training initiatives.

The Assistant Director for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Outreach, will recruit, select, train, and advise the [Not Just] Women’s Center peer mentors and peer training facilitators. This position is also responsible for providing education to students as a resource.

The Assistant Director for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Outreach, will work closely with the President’s Representatives for Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity to implement the campus climate survey.

The Assistant Director for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Outreach will work with the Director of IDE to provide intercultural interventions, mediation, and support services and develop resources and programming for underrepresented populations.

Required Experience

Preferred Qualifications:
● Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Counseling, Health/Wellness, or a related field.
● At least 2-4 years of experience in leadership development and student learning in a College/University setting, including staff supervision and training.
● Flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings and weekends to meet with student organizations and facilitate activities.
● Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills
● Must value collaboration and be capable of developing exemplary working relationships with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and visitors daily.
● Decision-making and the ability to troubleshoot and implement creative solutions with principle and consistency are essential.
