Definition of Class

The Wellness Navigator position is housed in the William Magee Center(WMC) for AOD and Wellness Education. The WMC transforms students' lives by providing education, intervention, support services, to enhance student wellbeing and foster student success. Navigator works in collaboration with the primary care providers and members of the Community of Practice in the UM Division of Student Affairs. Accepts referrals and manages assigned caseload. Develops wellness and care initiatives to assess and coordinate care. Provides management of services for UM students in a manner that is appropriate and effective Responsible and accountable for direct and indirect communication and consultation for designated student populations. Assesses wellness needs and identifies campus and community resources. Serves as a student advocate and assists in the identification and improvement of wellness services delivery. This position requires expertise in the navigation process (coordinating campus and community connections) and using critical thinking skills toplan and coordinate services to meet student wellness needs.

Examples of Work Performed
  • Oversee Medical Expense Fund in collaboration with University Health Services director to allocate funds to cover unforeseen medical expenses for students meeting certain criteria
  • Assist with and facilitate the transition of wellness care of students to and from facilities (hospital, rehabilitation, outpatient, etc.) back into UM’s community of care
  • Consult with team members, medical staff, and ancillary department staff to eliminate barriers to the efficient delivery of wellness care
  • Identify service delivery problems and potential for effective wellness management intervention
  • Liaison with external providers and serve as a community referral source
  • The Wellness Navigator position identifies appropriate campus and community resources to provide continuity of wellness care for our student population
Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:
Master's Degree in a Human Services related field
AND
Experience: Three (3) years of experience related to the above-described duties.
