The Dean of Students provides overall leadership and support to administrators, faculty and staff in the division, which includes Counseling, the Academic Advising Center, Career Development Services, First Year Experiences, Student Life, Student Conduct, and serves as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Students.
REPORTING AND SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS:
- Direct reporting relationship to the Vice President of Student Affairs as a member of the Student Affairs Senior Leadership Team.
- Direct supervisory relationship with the Manager of Advising, Manager of Student Life and Leadership, Manager of First Year Experience, and Manager of Career Services, and two faculty counselors.
HOURS: The schedule consists of working minimally 8:00am to 4:30pm four (4) days a week and 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. one (1) day per week. Occasionally, there will be additional evening and weekend hours.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees the operations of academic advising, counseling, career development services, student life, first year experiences, and student conduct and crisis management.
- Coordinates and manages with academic affairs the campus early alert system.
- Oversees the coordination of wrap-around support services and resources for students, including but not limited to a student emergency fund, partnerships with off-campus partners, housing resources, county and state support information, food resources, etc.
- Serves as the senior conduct officer for the college. Ensures that students adhere to the College’s Student Code of Conduct. Conducts investigations of alleged misconduct and issues sanctions in accordance with College policy.
- Reviews and responds to student appeals of College policy in a timely manner.
- Convenes regular meetings with employees in the division to facilitate communication, staff development and service delivery.
- Provides leadership and support in developing and implementing effective academic advising services and training programs.
- Plans and directs programs and services to further student retention and development.
- Supports efforts of the Transfer Coordinator to facilitate articulation agreements, courses and programs to enhance transfer opportunities for the students.
- Serves as a member of the Strategic Enrollment Management Committee to enhance enrollment, recruiting and marketing efforts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in counseling, student affairs or related discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body.
- A minimum of three-years of administrative, management, counseling, or advising experience.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, computer, verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated fiscal and personnel management skills, including counseling and negotiating skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
