Job Description:

The Business Analyst Manager is a member of the Finance Division within the University, reporting directly to the Director of the Internal Consulting Group. The incumbent will lead a small team of business analyst(s) consulting on special- initiatives and process improvement projects. The incumbent will be a key contributor and support cross-functional teams within the Finance Division, including the Controller’s Office, the Treasury Department, the Workday Program team, and Financial Planning and Analysis. As a member of the internal consulting group, the incumbent may also need to partner with business owners outside the Finance Division (University Human Resource/Computer Information System/Facilities Management/etc.) based on project scope and needs. Projects will be identified and assigned in conjunction with the Director of the Internal Consulting group. The incumbent will act in an operational-lead capacity on assigned projects. The expectation is that each project assigned is delivered in a timely manner and consistent with prescribed scope and documentation requirements, including but not limited to standard operating procedures, policy recommendations, and presentation materials.

Major Responsibility: Act as Operational lead for cross-functional and strategic University Projects

Supporting Actions:
  • Work with the Director, Internal Consulting Group and the financial leadership team to identify and scope cross-functional strategic projects
  • Act as the subject matter expert and operational lead for University strategic projects assigned to the team. Examples of past projects have included cost allocation practices and research finances
  • Participates in the production and the communication of executive-level briefings, summaries, and presentations
  • Assist in supporting financial planning and analysis for assigned departments, business and / or initiative and serve on the team for these high-profile initiatives across the University.
Major Responsibility: Systems Support and Process Improvement Projects

Supporting Actions:
  • Provide dedicated project support for systems implementations and process improvement projects,
  • As part of team, participate in trainings, provide guidance and develop best practices
  • Develop final process documents and standard operating procedures
  • Supports project meetings and prepares regular reports to communicate the status of projects to stakeholders within and beyond the project team
  • Escalates and works to resolve issues that serve as roadblocks and/or place project objectives at risk
  • Identifies and provides final recommendation on project plan, approach, and final deliverables and work product
Major Responsibility: Management, Support and Administration

Supporting Actions:
  • Supervise and mentor Business Analyst
  • Conduct recruitment and hiring of the staff member(s)
  • Manage staff development and training
  • Establish goals that encourage the staff member’s growth and meet the department’s needs; meet periodically to review progress against the goals that were set.
  • Attend Finance Division management meetings to share progress, provide updates, and identify efficiencies on current active projects.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA preferred
  • 7-10 years of relevant work experience, preferably in higher education
  • Strong computing skills; advanced excel, PowerPoint and accounting software
  • Experience working with financial reporting such as Profit and Loss statements or balance sheets
  • Initiative and ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Proven exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively explain and provide insight into managed finances.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills
  • Ability to learn new systems quickly
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment
  • Ability to work in a deadline driven environment and manage multiple priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment
