Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Data Analyst and Visualization Specialist supports Institutional Research and will work with the Director of Institutional Research to support data-informed decision making at Framingham State University.

EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Duties:

  • Serve as Tableau Site Administrator: create prioritize and oversee project organization; review and certify content; manage user roles and permissions.
  • Leverage Tableau to design, create, test, and maintain Tableau dashboards, perform data mining, identify trends, and develop data analysis that provide key stakeholders with insight, reports, dashboards, and views that enable and support data-driven decision making.
  • Collaborate with ITS to establish data connections, data refresh schedules, and centralized data locations; develop scheduled and ad-hoc reports; explore single sign-on (SSO) access to Tableau.
  • Work with IR Staff, ITS, and other functional offices to evaluate data files and ensure the integrity and accuracy of data extracted from various sources, including Banner, Qualtrics, and Starfish.
  • Exercise analytical and design thinking to translate data into informative, usable reports and visuals.
  • Pursue professional development and networking opportunities as related to data analytics; stay up to date on standards of practice on data integrity, quality, manipulations, and analytics; leverage resources available through vendors and industry.
  • Assist with planning for expanded use of dashboards across the University to add value to data accessibility and usage.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for access, data sources, dashboards, and reporting to ensure transparency and understanding across the university.
  • Review existing data dissemination systems with an eye to improving them.
  • Organize and lead training to key users on using reports and dashboard to evolve data analytics for department and university-wide engagement.
  • Represent the Office of Institutional Research on campus standing committees.
  • Provide ad hoc analytical support.
  • Support Institutional and educational quality mechanisms including program review and strategic planning.



Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field.
  • Experience in Tableau (or comparable visual analytics software), Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables).
  • Proficiency in use of query and reporting analysis tools.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision.
  • Communication skills and judiciousness in the representation of data.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Multitasking and collaborative skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2+ years' experience in developing dashboards and reports using Tableau.
  • Experience with data modeling and normalization.
  • Familiarity with SQL and relational databases.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position in the Association of Professional Administrators (APA) bargaining unit with a union title of Staff Associate. The salary range is $60,000-65,000.

This position is funded by a grant in the first year with a commitment from the university to fund the position in subsequent years.
