Job Summary:

This position will be working as part of a leadership team of the Wisconsin Electric Machines and Power Electronics Consortium (WEMPEC). WEMPEC is an internationally renowned engineering research group comprised of five faculty, and one emeritus faculty together with three staff members supporting more than 60 on-campus graduate students. Support for WEMPEC is provided by member companies, each contributing annually as well as more than a dozen sponsored research projects, and additional gift monies.

Under the general supervision of the WEMPEC Director, this position is primarily responsible for administration of the program. Incumbent must interpret and administer UW policies and procedures in conjunction with program activities. As this program is administered through the University of Wisconsin, this position requires the extensive awareness of, and strict compliance with, all UW contractual responsibilities and reporting requirements. The position requires a high degree of independent judgment and decision-making.

Responsibilities:

Manages a program and/or programmatic activities. Initiates, develops, and implements operational services that support a defined project, program, work unit, or function to advance program goals and objectives. May supervise staff and/or approve unit expenditures.
  • 10% Plans, implements, executes, and evaluates existing strategies and objectives for a program and makes recommendations to unit leadership for program or function enhancement
  • 5% Identifies workflow needs, contributes to the development of strategic and operational solutions, allocates resources, and implements new or revised unit operational policies and procedures
  • 20% Schedules logistics and secures resources for program activities across multiple work units to ensure optimum efficiency and compliance with appropriate policies, procedures, and specifications
  • 15% Leads the development and preparation of periodic reports and financial statements, and records progress, status, or other special reports for leadership or external agencies
  • 10% May assist in the development and monitoring of the unit or program budget and approve unit expenditures
  • 20% Contributes to the preparation of proposals for funding and/or funding continuation from outside sponsors
  • 5% Conference/Event Coordination Planning and Management. Lead the planning and coordination for programs/events. Directly responsible for all the activities necessary to host WEMPEC corporate members, students, faculty and staff.
  • 10% Manage updates to the WEMPEC website, social media, and newsletter.
  • 5% Hire and supervise WEMPEC admin student employees

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree
Preference in Business or a technical engineering field

Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years required, 5 years preferred, experience in program administration including record-keeping, activity and meeting planning and coordination, supervision of student workers, purchase and sale of program material, and demonstrated expertise with industry standard office software. Also required is sufficient technical background and demonstrated capacity to acquire sufficient technical knowledge of WEMPEC's research activities in order to effectively communicate with current and potential consortium member organizations. Demonstrated capability to work in a highly interactive environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
