Job Summary

Reporting to the Learning Commons Managing Associate – Supplemental Instruction, the Learning Commons Associate – Supplemental Instruction will provide front-line customer service to students, employees, and the public at the College. The incumbent is responsible for cross-training in multiple areas and will be able to assist with clerical, customer service, learning lab, library, and other professional duties throughout the Learning Commons.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Performance Requirements*
  • Provides guidance to students, faculty, staff, and the community on the relevant resources to meet their needs
  • Oversees the front desk and assists in the daily operations and administrative responsibilities of the Learning Commons, including appointment scheduling, calendar management, and email/phone communication
  • Monitors the Learning Commons to ensure user behavior policies are followed
  • Answers questions about the Learning Commons and its resources and services
  • Inventories, orders, and checks in materials and supplies and ensures that good safety, housekeeping, and security practices are adhered to at all times
The duties and responsibilities below will vary depending on where the incumbent will be located

Library
  • Serves as a resource for identifying sources of requested information for learning, research, and engagement
  • Makes resources and other tools available to students, faculty, and staff, including library materials, multimedia equipment, laptops, and other technology
  • Assists patrons with questions regarding technology, computer hardware and software
  • Answers questions, troubleshoots, and resolves technical issues related to printers, copiers, and scanners
  • Assists patrons in person and via telephone, by answering their questions or referring them to the appropriate person, department or service desk
  • Updates and maintains maker space hardware and software, which may include but is not limited to 3D printers, microscopes, iPads, AV equipment, tracking software, calculators, and graphic design/video editing software
  • Provides check-in and check-out services as well as properly shelving library materials
  • Responsible for Library website content review, creation, and maintenance
Learning Support
  • Provides tutoring assistance to students in order to enhance learning and increase academic success
  • Provides students with appropriate handouts and educational materials as needed
  • Provides academic coaching/mentoring to current students in need of additional academic support and study strategies
  • Prepares and puts in place equipment scheduled for use during laboratory teaching sessions
  • Teaches basic certification, safety, and training courses covering all lab equipment
Service Excellence
  • Participates on behalf of the College in external community organizations and associations as assigned to support the essential performance requirements
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through the Tarrant County College ( TCC ) Institute
  • Supports the values of the College: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation, and creativity and service to the College
  • Supports the mission, values and 3 goals and 8 principles of the College
Supervision
Works under the general supervision of the Learning Commons Managing Associate – Supplemental Instruction

Required Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development ( GED )
Preferred Qualifications
  • Any completed college level course work
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and a setting that is diverse and urban
  • Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied, and unpredictable in scope and volume
  • Ability to analyze data and provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations
  • Ability to delegate work appropriately to faculty and staff to meet College and campus deliverables
  • Ability to use computer applications and enterprise systems, including proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with diverse populations

Special Instructions Summary

This posting will be utilized to fill multiple opportunities within the Supplemental Instruction department on the Northeast campus.

This is a part-time temporary position, with a maximum of 19.5 hrs. per week. Flexibility is required as part-time work schedules may vary based on individual campus/departmental needs including evenings and weekends.
