The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking an Instructor, Music for Las Positas College in Livermore, California.



Representative Duties:
1. Coordinate voice and choral activities.

2. Teach choral repertoire from a variety of genres and conduct choral ensembles.

3. Teach vocal techniques, applied lessons, and general education courses. May teach other courses, such as music technology, music business, and music theory.

4. Familiarity with a wide variety of choral and vocal genres including, but not limited to, jazz, gospel, new music, and popular styles.

5. Teach distance education, late afternoon, evening, and weekend classes when scheduled as part of the regular teaching assignment.

6. Recruit students to participate in the music program, conduct community outreach, and actively maintain good relations with area K-12 schools and colleges.

7. Provide coordination as needed for the music program, including scheduling, budget management, grant writing, enrollment management, overseeing part-time faculty, and applied lessons.

8. Work professionally and collaboratively with faculty and staff in recitals, performances, and juries.

9. Mentor and advise music majors towards a certificate, degree, and/or transfer.

10. Participate in campus professional activities, including, but not limited to development and revision of curriculum, writing program review, participating on committees, attending division and college-wide meetings, student learning outcomes development and assessment, monitoring of student progress, and staying current with music pedagogy.

11. Collaborate with colleagues, accompanist, and technical staff, including with other disciplines such as musical theater, dance, and other related campus departments.



Minimum Education and Experience:
Master’s in music

OR Bachelor’s in music AND Master’s in humanities

OR the equivalent

Minimum Qualifications:
Evidence of a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and learning disabilities.



Desirable Qualifications:
1. Experience and excellence in teaching and conducting choral ensembles, as well as private applied lessons. Extensive knowledge with a wide variety of choral and vocal literature including, but not limited to, jazz, gospel, new music, and popular styles.

2. Ability and willingness to maintain an active student performance schedule, which may include travel.

3. Ability to teach one or more courses in Commercial Music, including but not limited to Music Technology and Music Business.

4. Experience with music software programs, such as Sibelius, ProTools, Logic, and Ableton. Ability to manage and update recording studio equipment and software.

5. Experience in teaching a wide variety of general education music classes, which may include Music Appreciation courses and Music Fundamentals.

6. Experience working with an accompanist.

7. Familiarity or ability to learn social media platforms for outreach and recruitment.

8. Ability to adapt instructional techniques to accommodate varied learning styles and abilities, including physical or learning disabilities.

9. Experience as a vocal performer and involvement in professional organizations.
