Duties and Responsibilities:

The IELTS Examiner conducts Speaking tests for the paper-based IELTS (PB) test center for standard IELTS . This position is responsible for carrying out assessments for the IELTS Speaking module, including second marking where necessary, maintaining the standards required by the IELTS Professional Support Network ( PSN ) and IELTS USA, and supporting other IELTS operations supporting Examining as requested.

The position requires attendance at least one test a month. Tests usually take place on Saturdays but could include other working hours and/or evening work.

IELTS Examiners are required to maintain certification in the speaking module for the duration of the contract. If the successful applicant is not currently certificated as an IELTS examiner, the applicant will be required to meet the PSN Minimum Professional Requirements and certificate in the Speaking module.

Duties and responsibilities include:
  • Conducting IELTS Speaking tests
  • Second marking for the Speaking module
  • Adhering to the IELTS Professional Support Network and IELTS USA policies
  • Participating in Examiner meetings and other relevant meetings as required
  • Maintaining the reputation and integrity of the IELTS test, IELTS USA, and AUM
  • Attend all briefing and training sessions as required by AUM
The physical requirements of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Sedentary work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.

The physical activity of this position includes but is not limited to:
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing: Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

An IELTS Examiner is expected to have the following professional attributes and interpersonal skills:

  • Acts professionally at all times
  • Is sensitive to cultural differences
  • Understand and commit to maintaining appropriate standards of confidentiality and security of materials
  • Customer orientation and ability to adapt/respond to different types of personalities
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively
  • Knowledge of IELTS test policy and procedures is a plus
Minimum Qualifications:
  • An undergraduate or Master’s degree or a qualification which can be demonstrated to be equivalent to an undergraduate or Master’s degree.
  • A recognized and accredited qualification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages ( TESOL ) or recognized equivalent as part of a recognized university award course.
  • At least 3 years’ full time (or the equivalent part time) relevant TESOL teaching experience (minimum one year post-certificate level qualification). The majority of this teaching experience must relate to adult students (16 years and over).
