About the Division of Marketing:
The Division of Marketing at Syracuse University is chartered to help build Syracuse University’s identity by igniting the imagination of target audiences to join us as students, supporters, team members, and fans. The division is also focused on helping advance Syracuse University’s vision and strategic priorities by effectively positioning, promoting, and protecting the University by bringing the mission to life through purposeful storytelling, marketing, and communication.
  • This position is performed on our campus at our location in the Nancy Cantor Warehouse in dynamic downtown Syracuse.
What You Will Do:
In this role, you will provide leadership for the Content Strategy team and are also the lead content strategist, working in partnership with the SAVP of Marketing Strategy, to mine the campus and University constituencies for dynamic stories and content. You will play a central and strategic role
within the Marketing Division, identifying outstanding opportunities to advance the University’s brand and marketing efforts through storytelling. A strategic dot-connector and relationship builder, you will work closely with the Marketing Strategy team to deeply understand target audiences, to ensure we are reaching them through the right channel, at the right time,
with the right content. Additionally, you will be responsible for:
  • Developing and implementing a goal-advancing strategy for researching, gathering and producing channel-agnostic content.
  • Working collaboratively across the various marketing channels to bring our brand to life in a consistent, cohesive and compelling way.
  • Leading day to day operations of a dynamic, high performing, content team. You are also the
  • Editor-in-Chief of the Syracuse University magazine and will serve as a member of the CMOs leadership team.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s degree and significant professional experience demonstrating strong leadership skills and a strong grasp of modern marketing practices.
  • Experience in a content strategy leadership role, leading practice development within teams, and specific experience with content marketing platforms will be a key differentiator.

Preferred Qualifications:
Background in higher education is a plus.

Who We Are Looking For:
We are seeking someone with exceptional strategic and creative sensibilities, a proven track-record of experience driving integrated marketing & content strategy to advance business goals, excellent
experience directing content operations from concept to completion & building infrastructure. You will lead the day-to-day operations of a dynamic, high performing, content team and serve as a key strategist and important dot-connector, understanding multiple strategies to be purposeful in the identification of potential content opportunities. You will develop a repeatable, systematic approach to identifying dynamic, timely and relevant contents combined with a methodology that produces high-performing content with our constituencies, advancing University goals.

Additional knowledge and skills include:
  • An ability to understand how to leverage multiple channels to land meaningful narratives to support a holistic expression of the brand.
  • Ability to navigate within a large org structure. Strong oral & written communication, organizational & problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional collaboration skills to partner with the schools/colleges, academic units and other divisions to find storytelling opportunities which bring our brand to life, advance marketing strategies and achieve organizational goals.
  • Strong management and leadership skills and experience to support the selection, development and satisfaction of a high-performing team. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate clearly and passionately, both in writing & verbally.
