Job Description

The Communications Specialist is a flexible content creator (including written communications, video production and social media content) who can deftly switch tone, length, style and format with enthusiasm, curiosity and creativity. The position will be expected to learn and articulate the many aspects of Information Technology Services ( ITS ) and have a thorough understanding of departmental goals and objectives. Under supervision of the ITS Communications Manager, the position will work in collaboration with ITS leadership to notify the university community about technology upgrades and changes, as well as to promote ITS services and events.

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Three (3) plus years of professional writing experience required, preferably in an academic environment.
  • Degree in English, journalism, communications, marketing or a closely related field desired.
Job Specific Qualifications
  • Excellent research, fact-gathering and interviewing abilities.
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously, without losing attention to detail.
  • Ability to synthesize information from a variety of sources into a new, original work.
  • Strategic thinking to imagine how a series or suite of communications across various audiences can address an identified goal.
  • Familiarity with mass email/e-newsletter creation and dissemination, website content management systems, and other digital communication tools/platforms.
  • Excellent editing and proofreading skills.
  • Working knowledge of ADA accessibility standards.
  • Write announcements, create videos, craft social media content and manage projects, such as those related to crucial technology upgrades and changes, in highly collaborative environment.
  • Assist in developing and executing communication strategies to promote the organization’s goals and objectives. Conduct research and stay up-to-date on the latest communication trends and strategies.
  • Review/refresh web content and assist with e-newsletters.
  • Support implementation of University branding guidelines within divisional messaging.
  • Other duties as assigned.
