DESCRIPTION

This position is a full-time tenure track, 10 month classroom teaching assignment in the Career Technical Education division Aircraft Fabrication and Assembly Technician Program (AFAB) / Airframe Manufacturing Technology Program (AFMT)  Division. The current teaching load is 15 lecture hour equivalents per semester. Faculty are also responsible for 5 office hours per week and are expected to devote as much time as necessary to perform the professional responsibilities of the position. Participation in professional activities, curriculum development and campus committees is expected. The teaching assignment may include courses offered  at alternate campuses/sites and evening and Saturday classes.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

• Teach fifteen lecture hour equivalents per semester in Aeronautical Sciences & Technology Department disciplines (AFAB, AFMT, MSAM, ANDI) using various teaching methods including demonstrations and active learning strategies.

• Maintain five office hours per week, including regular posted office hours, which are accessible to students.

• Responsible for preparation time

• Participate in faculty/division meetings; yearly program review; curricular planning, development, and implementation; student learning outcomes: data collection and writing action plans, program learning outcomes, development, assessment, and implementation; evaluation of educational programs; and college governance to  advance the college's mission and strategic goals.

• Participate in faculty professional development and continuing education activities that are designed to maintain and develop currency in the field, pedagogy (for traditional and online teaching and learning), and student support strategies, especially as they relate to student equity initiatives.

• Maintain records of attendance, census, grades, etc.

• Provide an environment conducive to effective learning.

• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

• Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all employees and others encountered in the course of work.

• Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

• Travel between District locations is also expected.

• Performs other instructional-related duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any Bachelor’s Degree or higher AND two years of professional experience, OR any associate degree AND six years of professional experience OR equivalency

 

Antelope Valley College Equivalency  Equivalency approve February 3, 2022. (Expires 2025)

Area: Aircraft Mechanics -

 

College work, military training, or nationally recognized certifications equivalent to a Baccalaureate degree and two years of related occupational experience in the discipline; OR college work, military training, or nationally recognized certifications equivalent to an Associate degree plus six years of occupational experience related to the discipline

           OR

 

Eight years of experience in the aircraft fabrication occupation, two years of which must have included assignment as supervisor, instructor, trainer or owner of an aircraft maintenance facility with emphasis in aircraft assembly or prototype construction.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

• Knowledge about or experience working with students who are underrepresented in higher academia, with the goal of reducing equity gaps.

• Teaching experience that reflects culturally responsive teaching practices.

• Successful experience teaching aircraft fabrication at the college or university level.

• Teaching experience and academic background in one or more of the following: aircraft fabrication.

• Experience using a learning management system (LMS)

• Experience in developing and revising curriculum, assessing student learning outcomes, and participating in program review documents.

• Three years full time, postsecondary teaching experience in Career Technical Education(preferably at a community college) OR 10 years of recent experience in training programs as related to the aviation/aerospace manufacturing/maintenance industries. Industry certifications related to the assignment.

• Possession of FAA certification(s) A&P, IA.

• Ability and/or evidence related to developing training aids (hydraulic/pneumatic/aircraft systems) or industry awards related to improvements in quality and production with regards to improving technician performance.

• Evidence of a commitment to teaching/learning and vision of a learning-centered institution and community.

• An understanding of how technology can support learning and a record of support for technological advancements.

• Evidence of successful grant writing or scholarship awards.

• Five years teaching experience and or ten years work experience in one or more of the following: (Aircraft Fabrication, Aircraft Manufacturing, Aircraft Non-Destructive Inspection, and Aircraft Metrology), preferably community college teaching experience in a CTE program. 

• Seven years supervisory and or lead experience in Aircraft Manufacturing within in Department of Defense (DoD).

• Quality Management/Quality Assurance and OR Composite Inspection experience

• Aeronautical Industry certifications in Low Observable and Composite Fabrication/Manufacturing and Repair applications OR related to the assignment .

• Aeronautical Industry training or certifications in Pi Bonding and Pi Infusion.

• Aeronautical Industry certifications in Aeronautical NDI OR Metrology Fabrication/Manufacturing applications OR related to the assignment

CATIA or SolidWorks or related 3D modeling software experience 

• Six Sigma and or 5S training. 

• Familiar with FOD and Hazmat requirements and processes within the aviation industries.
