Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Associate Director, the System Administrator is responsible for tasks relating to the administration, configuration, and management of major campus productivity systems and software applications. User Services also manages and supports ServiceNow, campus email, calendaring, web conferencing, document repository services, and access to all single sign-on (SSO) enabled SDSU applications. The incumbent will also be responsible for tasks relating to the configuration, installation, maintenance, and support of desktop computers, laptops, mobile devices, and their related peripherals. The incumbent will perform hardware and software maintenance, updates/upgrades, and repairs to ensure optimum performance The Incumbent will be responsible for the management of assigned projects, interacting on a daily basis with ITD service units, faculty, staff, and students virtually and in-person on campus.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

This position is approved for partial telecommuting with onsite work in San Diego. This position is scheduled to work three days on campus and two days from the telecommuting site. However, the schedule may vary based on operational needs.

Department Summary

User Services (ITUS) is responsible for the operation and technical support of the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), Google Workspace, Microsoft O365, SDSUid, ServiceNow, campus email, Zoom, Mediasite, Explorance Blue, software licensing\distribution, application support/development, Single Sign On (SSO) infrastructure, Azure application integrations, electronic document signing, and wireless troubleshooting. ITUS also provides the Help Desk for all SDSU faculty and staff, as well as a suite of support services in support of computers and software used by faculty, staff, and students. Computer support for general assignment classrooms, LETUS units, and other clients of ITD is also provided by ITUS.

Education and Experience

To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in operating systems programs, maintenance, and systems administration features is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science, mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent technical training and/or experience. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Operating Systems Analyst include a working knowledge of the assigned computer operating systems, systems analysis, and systems-level programming.

Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field OR four years of experience as a system administrator or system technician in multiple operating system environments.
  • Experience with service call center and service request reference database systems and sources.
  • Working knowledge of the technologies, systems, computing platforms, software, policies and procedures, training methods, and data communications, common software application packages, equipment platforms (Windows and Apple Mac), reference database systems and sources, and training methods, and a basic understanding of networks, data communication, multimedia systems.
  • Experience with the installation, maintenance, updating, and troubleshooting of classroom instructional technology systems.
  • Ability to provide consistent and timely customer service within defined policy and procedural guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of mobile Android and iOS.
  • Excellent communication and customer services skills.
  • Ability to provide software development and programming support for instructional applications.
  • Ability to prepare, edit, and maintain written technical documentation on a routine basis.
  • Thorough knowledge of Windows operating systems and Apple Macintosh operating system, desktop security for Windows/MAC OS, and performing functions in the areas of documentation, implementation, setup, and configuration.
  • Applied knowledge supporting ServiceNow, Google Workspace, Microsoft O365, Canvas and Mediasite.
  • Working knowledge of technical training methods.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $7,084 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,678 - $11,547 per month.
