Job Description

The Department of Security and Emergency Services at The College of Arts & Sciences (COAS) at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Worldwide invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position (fully remote U.S. based), in human security and resilience. The candidate will be the M.S. in Human Security and Resilience (MHSR) graduate program Chair.

The selected candidate will oversee and contribute to the development of the MHSR curriculum as the Program Chair of the MHSR graduate program. This faculty member reports to the Department Chair of the Department of Security and Emergency Services, and will contribute to the college’s strategic priorities, as well as work with other relevant units to support student recruitment, retention, enrollment and success.

The successful candidate will contribute to promoting the College of Arts & Sciences as a national leader in the broad area of human security and resilience, following its new vision and mission statement . We are particularly interested in applications with a demonstrated track record of interdisciplinary research and scholarship, engaging with colleagues across multiple disciplines to advance the body of knowledge associated with human security and resilience. Specifically, we seek a faculty member who will contribute original research that advances theory, concepts, practice, and/or knowledge in the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary areas of human security and resilience. The subject-matter expertise of this hire, in collaboration with existing faculty, will be used to investigate critical issues and 21st-century challenges in the study of resilience and human security, while also engaging colleagues across COAS in the development of supporting interdisciplinary curricula.

The candidate will have academic experience that will enable them to investigate issues in the cross-section of areas such as security, climate change, planning, governance, community resilience, and development. We particularly welcome candidates with experience working with non-traditional students and students from diverse backgrounds in an online educational environment. Competitive applicants will have a record of (or demonstrated capacity for) excellence in teaching, and will teach courses in the department programs per qualifications and department needs. Programs in the department are mainly delivered online and include: Bachelor of Science in Emergency Services, Master of Science in Emergency Services, Bachelor of Science in Homeland Security, Master of Science in Human Security and Resilience.

A Ph.D.in a relevant discipline is required
