Carnegie Mellon University’s Office of the Dean of Students is searching for a Financial Assistant to join its team. This is a fixed-term 3-month position from April – June 2023. This position primarily supports the financial needs of our 300+ student organization community as they seek to spend the student activities fees money allocated to them by student government.

The position is part-time, benefits eligible, and supervised by the Senior Financial Manager in the Office of the Dean of Students and works closely with the Director of Operations and Engagement in the SLICE (Student Leadership, Involvement, and Civic Engagement) Office. The expected commitment is 20-25 hours/week. This job requires working within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of Carnegie Mellon University and the Office for Student Leadership, Involvement, and Civic Engagement.

Core Responsibilities will include:
  • Process expense reports for student organizations.

  • Manage the approval flow for student organization travel including communication, policy review, and tracking.

  • Make direct purchases in support of organization missions as needed and complete verification of expenses.

  • Advise student organizations regarding financial policies and protocols, budget development/management, and purchasing procedures.

  • Coordinate and communicate with stakeholders such as staff, students, external vendors, Accounts Payable, and Procurement Services.

  • Professional development and other duties as assigned in service to the broader Carnegie Mellon community through committee work, etc.

You should demonstrate:
  • Application of analytical, budgeting, business, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to interact with a variety of internal partners and external customers

  • Proven problem solving and reasoning skills, analytical skills, and oral, written, and interpersonal and intercultural communication skills

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • 3-5 years of experience working with students, administrative support, bookkeeping, accounts payable, data entry, or other relevant experience

  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
