Job Summary
Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking candidates for the position of DCSITE Animal Care Attendant. The individual selected for this position will be working with the DCSITE program.
The Auburn University DCSITE program will serve as the primary academic resource to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for expertise in all areas of detection canine sciences. The DCSITE program will integrate best scientific practices in analytical chemistry, genetics, genomics, reproduction, veterinary and sports medicine, olfactory neuroscience, behavior and cognition, metrology and engineering to advance detection canine sciences. Essential Functions
- Ensures animal cages and/or containment rooms are kept clean and orderly. Restocks supplies needed for cleaning rooms and meeting care animal needs.
- May perform a variety of animal care duties including but not limited to feeding, watering, monitoring basic animal health and behavior, cage change out and cleaning of kennels.
- May perform a variety of animal care facility services including but not limited to upkeep and maintenance of animal housing areas such as but not limited to sweeping, mopping, sanitization of walls, floors, tables, and equipment.
- Assists with animal treatment and health needs on an as needed.
- Assists with quality assurance and reports mechanical or physical plant issues.
- May perform a variety of duties in animal support areas including but not limited to laundry, cleaning and sterilizing equipment and loading and unloading supply racks.
- Adherence and understanding of biosecurity protocols including but not limited to wearing correct personal protective equipment ( PPE ), stocking of PPE, and maintaining footbaths.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Level I – High school diploma or equivalent.
Level II – High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of relevant experience in animal care.
Level III – High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of relevant experience in animal care.
Degrees accepted in lieu of years of experience for Levels II and III
