Job Summary:
The Library Clerk performs a wide variety of public service-oriented tasks. Incumbents assist students, faculty, staff, and other library users in the use of the library and library technologies The Library Clerk answers telephone and in-person inquiries and assists library users in locating print and online material. The Library Clerk also checks out and discharges library materials, retrieves and shelves print material, and troubleshoots technology-related issues.
Required Qualifications:
1. High School degree or GED required.
2. Library or library related experience preferred.
3. Familiarity with basic office procedures.
4. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both in person and via the telephone. Must have excellent customer service skills. Must be a team player and welcome the opportunity to work well with a diverse population.
5. Basic computer skills. Familiarity with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, e-mail, and internet search preferred. Ability to troubleshoot desktop and laptop problems a plus. Ability to learn to use emerging library technologies.
6. Must be willing and able to perform manual tasks necessary for job performance including lifting and carrying books, and reaching, bending and stooping to shelve books.
7. Must be available to work evening and weekend hours.
8. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
