Student Learning & Research Librarian

Franklin College invites applications for a Student Learning & Research Librarian of the B.F. Hamilton Library. Serving in a nontenure-track faculty role, the ideal candidate will focus on building relationships and developing instructional programs that position the Hamilton Library as a partner in student learning and success. Providing leadership in the design, implementation, assessment, and promotion of information literacy, particularly within the first-year seminars, the successful candidate will develop services, programs, and workshops in support of the college’s instructional and research missions. The successful candidate will support primary source literacy by making use of the library’s Archives and Special Collections for teaching and learning purposes, as well as advocating the use of open educational resources. Additionally, the Student Learning & Research Librarian will contribute to the collaborative reference, instruction, and outreach efforts of the Private Academic Library Network of Indiana (PALNI).

Primary Responsibilities

  • Define and foster responsive, course-integrated library instruction through “Inquiry,” the information literacy program of Hamilton Library, in support of the College’s “Pursuit” curriculum and course learning outcomes; Provide equitable research assistance and classroom instruction to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members; Develop, maintain, assess, and advocate inclusive pedagogy best practices for information literacy instruction; Create and maintain research guides, tutorials, and other instructional materials in support of information literacy concepts in multiple, accessible formats; Engage in collaborative efforts with relevant academic programs, campus partners, and the local community to promote instructional library services and coordinate workshops and programming supportive of student success; Identify primary sources from the Archives and Special Collections for information literacy teaching purposes and engagement with digital scholarship; Promote the awareness of open educational resources for affordable student learning; Contribute to the Private Academic Library Network of Indiana (PALNI) by exemplifying “deep collaboration”; Model lifelong learning by keeping apprised of issues and trends in information literacy, instructional design, outreach, open access and diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility initiatives relating to student learning and research;

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Assist in identifying barriers and proposing solutions for students’ diverse use of library collections, services, and spaces; Participate in holistic collection development; Maintain daily operations in the absence of the Director of Library Services & Assessment; Serve on faculty committees as assigned.

Qualifications

This position is a non-tenure-track faculty position with the possibility of an assistant professor ranking. An MLS/MIS/MLIS or an equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institution (or international equivalent) is required.  2+ years of professional library and/or teaching experience at the secondary or postsecondary level is preferred, as is demonstrated knowledge of ACRL’s Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education and ACRL’s Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education.  Documented experience using instructional design models, such as ADDIE, Universal Design, or additional pedagogical strategies for teaching and learning are also preferred.
