Visiting Lecturer in Dance

The School of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts (PVFA) at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time, Visiting Lecturer (non-tenure) with a nine-month academic appointment beginning Fall 2023. Upon successful completion of the visiting year, candidates may have the opportunity for continued employment within a permanent position. PVFA and the Dance, Music, and Theatre Performance Section seeks an individual who demonstrates expertise in any of the following dance techniques: Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and/or Hip-Hop.

Additionally, candidates should demonstrate thorough teaching experience in two or more of the following types of courses: dance appreciation, dance composition, dance history, dance pedagogy, creative movement for children, dance production, conditioning, Pilates and/or other somatic practices. Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge and experience with incorporating somatic practices, movement therapies, and the body sciences into the training of dancers.

Candidates are primarily expected to develop and maintain strong pedagogical activities and teach undergraduate courses in dance and/or somatic practices. Candidates may have a small requirement to contribute to academic service, namely in improvement and revisions of dance program curriculum.

The School of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts is a new school within the Texas A&M University System and has a diverse and dynamic mission with 60 faculty and over 15 staff members and a projected exponential growth in the next 5 years. The school was formed from three departments/programs spread across the university: the Department of Visualization, the Department of Performance Studies, and the Dance Science Program. The mission of PVFA places a heavy emphasis on faculty and student collaboration and interdisciplinary work in both scholarly and creative research. Texas A&M University leadership has charged the school with developing innovative research and creative works, public performances, and degree offerings at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels that build upon our strength in merging art and science, as well as the traditional fields of music, dance, art, and theater. The new school is projected to move into a new, $175m state-of-the-art visual and performing arts center. Construction is slated to begin in 2024. Qualifications

Candidates must hold an MA, MS, MFA or Doctoral degree in Dance. Competitive applicants should have a minimum of 2 years of university teaching experience and a clear history of student mentoring.
