Executive Director- Writing Center - (STA012085)



Directs and oversees the development and administration of the Writing Center's programs and projects. Formulates center's objectives, policies and procedures to facilitate programs and courses.

  1. Oversees the operational, financial and managerial activities of the Center, which includes supervision of its professional and support staff.
  2. Develops and directs programs and course offerings across the UH curriculum for the center's interdisciplinary Writing in the Disciplines (WID) program.
  3. Develops interdisciplinary collaboration and partnerships within the UH community of colleges, deans, departments, and faculty.
  4. Assures that the Center bases operations on current research and best practice within the field.
  5. Supervises and coordinates the qualitative and quantitative assessment and evaluation of the Center's courses, programs, workshops and initiatives.
  6. Explores and advances funding opportunities with the public and private sector.
  7. Promotes center's programs within the UH community and the Houston community at large.
  8. Performs other job-related duties as required.

Qualifications :

Doctoral and 5 years experience

Requires singular knowledge of a specialized advanced professional discipline or the highest level of general business knowledge, normally acquired through attainment of a directly job-related terminal degree or equivalent formal training in a recognized field of specialization that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience.

-Department will only accept experience in lieu of education.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with writing program and/or writing center administration.
  • Experience providing and/or structuring programs of individual writing support.
  • Experience with providing developmental education or first-year writing support.
  • Experience with collaborating with faculty and/or administration regarding curriculum and scheduling.
