Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching in Spanish a range of courses in bilingual education and English. This individual must embrace the opportunity to make a positive impact on the community through high-quality, integrated teaching, scholarship, and service in keeping with the motto and mission of Sam Houston State University. Contribute to the Bilingual/ ESL program as a collaborative member of the program area; collaborate with nationally and internationally recognized faculty in research and program development; continue the program’s history of having a positive impact on a state, regional, national, and international level; act as content expert and liaison in the area of bilingual and ESL education and demonstrate a commitment to diversity and social justice. Educational Requirements for the Position
Ph.D./Ed.D. in Bilingual Education or a closely related field ( ABD candidates
may apply but must have their degree completed by the contract start date
in January 2022). Experience Required for the Position
Must hold or be eligible for state public school teaching certification and have at least three (3) years of full-time experience as a Spanish/English bilingual classroom teacher in a PK-6 public school setting. Must be bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English with oral and written academic proficiency in both languages. Must be able to teach bilingual education courses in Spanish. Demonstrated excellence in teaching. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of and a willingness to communicate current trends in the field to students and other constituencies. Strong evidence of commitment to
diversity. Other Requirements for the Position
Preferred Qualifications
• Familiarity with teacher education accreditation standards;
• History of supervising field experiences
• Experience teaching bilingual education
• Evidence of service to departmental, college, and university
committees
• Participation in professional organizations at local and
national/international levels
• Evidence of collaboration with faculty in other programs across the
campus
• Evidence of purposeful university outreach and productive
relationships with community members and community organizations
• Record of scholarly productivity and evidence of emerging research
agenda
• Demonstrated record of or potential for teaching excellence at the
university level
• Experience teaching in multiple modalities (online and/or hybrid). Teaching day and
evening at the main campus and at The Woodlands is required
• Strong working knowledge of bilingual research methodologies
• Ability to build productive professional relationships with public schools,
