DIRECTOR, HONORS COLLEGE



California State University, Los Angeles, invites applications for the above Administrator IV position.

The Position : The director for the Honors College reports directly to the provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. The director provides dynamic and inclusive leadership for the Honors College at Cal State LA, an academically enriched and socially supportive environment that inspires students in all disciplines to become creative and critical thinkers as well as leaders in their fields. With core learning goals focused on civic engagement, leadership, and knowledge creation, the Honors College prepares students to address the pressing challenges of the 21st century. The director is committed to advancing equity and excellence and to promoting a vibrant and welcoming culture where students, faculty, and staff are inspired to collaborate, innovate, and achieve. The director is responsible for shepherding a compelling vision, mission programming, and budgetary priorities that are aligned with those of the University. The director is a member of the Deans’ Council and works closely with academic colleges and departments to connect Honors College initiatives with initiatives across the Division of Academic Affairs. The director provides leadership for the strategic plan as well as management for the daily operations of the Honors College. Priorities and responsibilities include, enhancing the college’s reputation for attracting and graduating outstanding students and for supporting them in their pursuit and attainment of academic excellence; coordinating and assessing effective curriculum; building and supporting a strong and innovative honors faculty community; advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in the Honors College; establishing and monitoring the college’s goals and objectives; developing and implementing plans for evaluation, data collection, and evidence-based decision making; participating in external fundraising; cultivating partnerships for community engagement within the Honors College; providing oversight for the Early Entrance Program (EEP), a distinctive program for gifted students who begin college between the ages of 11-15; and support the integration of EEP into the Honors College; and working with colleges and departments to provide educational opportunities for Honors College students in all majors. The director is responsible for providing leadership for the programs within the Honors College, including the Early Entrance Program and the National and International Scholarships and Fellowships Program (NISFeP). NISFeP provides support to all students at Cal State LA interested in scholarship and fellowship opportunities including Fulbright, Rhodes, and more. The Early Entrance Program, also known as EEP allows gifted students to enroll as full-time students in the Honors College at Cal State LA. Established in 1982, the program accepts qualified students between the ages of 11-15 and features a large population of other gifted students. “EEPsters begin full-time study upon acceptance and earn their baccalaureate within four to six years. The director of the Honors College serves as the executive secretary of the Honors College Steering Committee and the chair of the Early Entrance Program Admissions Committee. The director supervises the associate director of the Honors College, the director of the Early Entrance Program, the National and International Scholarships and Fellowships coordinator, the Honors College advisor, and two administrative staff members.

Required Qualifications & Experience : An earned terminal degree from an accredited four-year college or university. Successful university record of teaching, research (including scholarship and creative activities), and service to warrant appointment at the rank of associate or full professor. At least three years of experience in positions of leadership that include a focus on undergraduate student success. Experience successfully supervising and managing office personnel. A record of successful program planning, implementation, and evaluation. The incumbent must have demonstrated record of successfully planning and executing activities to foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for students, faculty members, and staff members; and demonstrated commitment to shared governance. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the California State University. Desired Qualifications : At least two years of experience working with an honors program or college. Experience in fundraising and/or grant development; and experience building community-based partnerships. Active participation in the National Collegiate Honors Council and/or a regional honors consortium. Knowledge of and/or experience working in the California State University System; and knowledge of and/or experience working with gifted students. Knowledge of best practices in honors colleges and programs.

Compensation : Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary range is $9,167 - $29,425/monthly. A comprehensive benefits package is provided.

Appointment : The Administrator IV appointment will be made under the guidelines for management and supervisory employees of the California State University. All rights and benefits associated with this appointment are governed by the Management Personnel Plan.
