Scope of Job:
To provide specialized assistance and counseling to the University students. Responsible for a variety of professional tasks related to developing, implementing and conducting specialized individual and group psychotherapy in a clinical setting. Uses independent judgment and discretion in diagnosing and formulating clinical treatment plans for clients. Provides education and training for student to promote position mental health for the student campus community.

Description of Duties:
  • Conducts professional mental health counseling services for enrolled students. Formats may include individual or group, and may be delivered in-person or online.



  • Conducts risk assessment and interventions for students in emotional or behavioral crises.

  • Conducts clinical assessments for purposes of triaging for mental health service options, for diagnostic formulation, and for treatment planning and assessment.

  • Consults with, coordinates with, and refers students to other health professionals and resources on and off campus.

  • Regularly attends and contributes to staff, case conference, and other related professional team meetings.

  • Helps develop, lead, and participate in various outreach events that include but are not limited to campus workshops, information tabling events, and classroom presentations.

  • Periodically reviews and evaluates the effectiveness of existing programs and services by assisting in the collection of data on clinical and outreach activities.

  • Helps in the development of innovative clinical and educational programming that promotes mental health and wellness.

  • Assists in training and supervision of counselor interns and practicum students in coordination with the director and/or supervising clinical therapists.

  • Maintains appropriate documentation to assure compliance with state law. This includes documentation of confidential health information.

General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Supervision Given:
Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education:
Master’s degree in a mental health related field.

Preferred Education:

Licenses/Certifications:
Must be licensed or certified in a mental health discipline in the State of Texas or hold a temporary/conditional professional counselor license and are actively working toward licensure (Proof of progress will need to be submitted to the supervisor every 6 months).

Required Experience:
Two (2) years of experience providing mental health counseling.

Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required.

Ability to set and adjust priorities; handles a high volume of work with frequent interruptions; works independently and in a flexible manner to meet changing business requirements. Demonstrates strong interpersonal communication skills; ability to speak and write clearly and concisely. Seeks to listen and understand views and comments of others.
