ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE: $130,000 - $160,000 annually

    POSITION PURPOSE:

    Under administrative direction of the Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Education, the Associate Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Education, will play a key leadership role in the future growth and forward success of the School as well as ensure the School's continued impact on education and local communities.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Administration of academic programs and student success
  • Oversee and coordinate the development and implementation of school-wide programs.
  • Oversee and facilitate student retention and management of FTE targets in consultation with the Dean and the Department Chairs.
  • In consultation with Department Chairs and in collaboration with the Dean, oversee curriculum and facilitate class scheduling.
  • Serve as a resource to SSE faculty on curriculum development and as an ex-officio member of the SSE curriculum committee.
  • In consultation with Department Chairs and in collaboration with the Dean, oversee and facilitate program development and other curricular initiatives targeted at improving student learning, retention, and degree completion.
  • Facilitate student recruitment, orientation, and other student outreach activities in coordination with the Dean, SSE Advising Center, Department Chairs, and faculty.
  • Provide direction and oversight to the SSE Advising Coordinator and professional advising team and represent the school on the Advising Leadership Team.
  • Oversee student affairs in SSE, including the review and processing of academic petitions, student grievances, issues, and problems.
  • Serve as ex-officio member of the SSE Scholarship Committee and oversee the awarding of student scholarships and awards.
  • Articulation, assessment, and accreditation
  • Coordinate school-level assessment initiatives, department assessment activities, department review processes and school contributions to the WASC review process.
  • Coordinate school-level articulation activities and initiatives with community colleges and other institutions of higher education.
  • Assist the Dean, department chairs, and faculty to ensure compliance with regulations, professional standards, state law, and accreditation requirements.
  • Assist the Dean with preparation of annual reports, school website and communications, and other reports on school programs.
  • School and University policies, initiatives, and communications
  • Serve as liaison to Student Services to assure compliance with student retention and time to degree issues.
  • Assist the Dean in implementation of University and School initiatives and compliance with School and University policies.
  • Prepare annual reports, school website and communications, and other reports on programs within the School in coordination with the Dean.
  • Attend University committee meetings and functions as the Dean's representative in the Dean's absence.
  • Community outreach and engagement
  • Work with the Dean and development staff on alumni relations, community relations, and fundraising projects.
  • Represent the Dean's office at various School and University-wide committees and the wider community.
  • Assist the dean in developing regional initiatives and collaborations with community organizations, PK-12 institutions, and other higher education institutions.
  • Attend community functions and University functions in the community as the Dean's representative in the Dean's absence.

  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE –

    An earned doctorate from an accredited institution in a field appropriate to one of the departments in the School, and an outstanding record of teaching, scholarship, and service commensurate with appointment as an Associate or Full professor with tenure in a discipline represented by the school. Demonstrated prior leadership experience as an administrator, department chair, academic leader, or equivalent experience (minimum of three years).

  • Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure, policies and procedures.
  • Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
  • Must be able to work occasional holidays and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.

  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A record of effective engagement with faculty, students, staff, university administrators, and members of the greater community preferably a comprehensive or master's level university.
  • Understanding of and experience in school and university governance.
  • Experience working with programs for student retention and advisement.
  • Experience supporting community engagement and/or service learning.
  • Successful experience and knowledge of AAQEP, CTC or CSWE accreditations.
  • Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.

  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: SEDENTARY WORK – involves mainly sitting; minimal walking and standing; lifting light weight objects limited to 15 pounds.
