Assistant Professor, Embedded Systems

The Department of Computer Systems, Engineering, & Technology (CSET) at the Portland-Metro/Wilsonville campus of Oregon Tech is seeking a qualified candidate for a 9-mo, tenure track position.

A qualified applicant should have a strong background in computer engineering and embedded systems. Skills in digital logic design using FPGA with Verilog HDL is required. Also expected is a graduate-level knowledge and some professional background in microcontrollers.

As a small department, all faculty are expected to teach a variety of freshman through senior level classes. Specifically, for example, freshman-sophomore areas of expertise include Digital Logic Design, Computer Organization, Computer Architecture, C/C++, Assembly Language (preferably MIPS), Microcontrollers/Microprocessors (preferably PIC), and FPGA-based logic design. For higher-level classes (junior-senior), skills in Embedded Sensors, Embedded Testing and Verification using System Verilog HDL, Real Time Operating System (RTOS), System on a Chip (SoC) Design, or Embedded Security would also be desirable. To be clear, we don’t expect a candidate to be able to cover all of these courses, but the broader your background the better.
The job duties for this position are teaching, advising, scholarship, and service. Professional development may include but is not limited to the publication of scholarly works, collaboration with industrial partners, student-oriented applied research and internal/external grant writing. Institutional service may include advising, on-campus committee membership and participation in departmental initiatives.

Oregon Tech’s Computer Systems Engineering Technology Department is committed to inclusive thought and action in support of our diverse community. Individuals from historically underrepresented groups and all those who share our commitment to inclusivity and passion for the strength of our diversity are strongly encouraged to apply.

Department Information:

The mission of the Computer Systems Engineering Technology (CSET) Department is to prepare students for productive engineering careers in the fields of computer engineering, embedded systems engineering, and software engineering. Our graduates are in high demand in industry because employers recognize that our students come prepared to be immediately productive as a member of their organization. This is one of the reasons our employment rates for all CSET programs are over 90%, with most students having job offers months before graduation.

We offer all three of our programs (Computer, Embedded, and Software) on our main campus located in Klamath Falls, OR. We offer the Embedded and Software programs at our satellite campus located in Wilsonville, OR (in the Portland Metro area).

Our department has a “family” atmosphere where students and faculty work collaboratively for students to achieve their educational goals. We believe strongly in the hands-on education learning model that Oregon Tech is famous for. Most CSET courses have a lab component built into the course. In addition, all of the bachelor programs in the CSET department have two project sequences: Junior Project – a three-term team-based project and Senior Project – a three-term individual project.
