Position Summary

Trinity College seeks a staff that reflects the changing demographics of our student body. The Study Away Adviser promotes study away among the Trinity faculty, students, and staff and in interactions with institutional partners and with the education abroad community at large. The Study Away Adviser serves as an ambassador of the Office of Study Away ( OSA ) on campus and with its affiliations abroad and in the U.S. The Study Away Adviser’s primary responsibilities consist of advising students; managing the study away process for Approved External Programs (AEPs) from students’ application to their return to campus; working with the Director and Associate Director to ensure advising quality; promoting study away opportunities and processes to a diverse population of students on campus; and maintaining relationships with external study away partners.
  • Advise the majority of students by explaining program options, the application process, and Trinity’s financial and academic policies and protocols; coordinate with other campus offices regarding student needs and concerns; coordinate pre-departure orientation and re-entry programming with other members of the OSA staff and campus constituents.
  • Recruit and supervise study away global ambassadors and student workers to act as peer advisors.
  • Recruit (on and off campus) for Trinity Signature Programs. Occasionally travel to partner schools for program promotion.
  • Develop on campus events (info sessions, fairs, photo contests, class visits, etc.) to promote study away and global learning opportunities.
  • Responsible for design and delivery of promotional content including social media posts, campaigns, flyers, promo materials, etc.
  • Continue professional development in the field of International Education by attending conferences, occasional international site visits, workshops, and trainings.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and based on departmental need.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required (area of expertise: International Studies, Language Studies, Anthropology, History, Geography and/or Political Science); Master’s preferred
  • One- three years work experience required
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work well in fast-paced and stressful environments
  • Good time management skills with the ability to prioritize work
  • Excellent human relations/customer service skills with the ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team
  • Effective communication (written and oral) skills
  • Public speaking and skills to develop presentations
  • Ability to perform data entry with a high degree of accuracy

  • Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with leadership, faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders/constituencies

  • Understanding of web design or webpage updates
  • Intercultural competency and immigration policy and processes
