Job Summary

Counseling & Psychiatric Services (CAPS) at the University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Fellows ! Fellows will continue their professional development and training by completing initial psychiatric evaluations and follow-up medication management appointments with senior staff supervision. Continued educational opportunities will be provided in this program through both didactic seminars and supervision.

Fellows may also be involved in facilitating workshops and/or groups and will work with a multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners, registered nurses, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, and licensed professional counselors. This role will collaborate with CAPS staff on all aspects of service delivery. This position also ensures that issues of diversity and social justice are considered in all assessment, treatment, referral, training, and outreach services provided.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Clinical Services

Provide medical/psychiatric coverage for (all aspects include senior staff supervision):
  • New psychiatric evaluations and follow-up appointments with senior staff supervision.
  • Psychiatric consultations with senior staff supervision.
  • Staff consultation with senior staff supervision.
  • Urgent/Crisis clinical services with senior staff supervision.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests when indicated with senior staff supervision.
  • Weekly trainings as well as additional trainings.
Administrative Services
  • Attend meetings as assigned.
  • Represent CAPS as a liaison to provide outreach to the campus community.
  • Collaborate with other departments and clinics.
  • Follow all CAPS guidelines around charting/documentation/billing/quality improvement.
  • Participate in peer reviews and trainee evaluations.
  • Represent the department in mental health topic presentations.
What You Should Know
  • These are 10-month appointments and are anticipated start on August 7, 2023 and last through May 7, 2024.
  • The anticipated work schedule is Monday through Friday 9am - 5pm and the position has a hybrid option; however, we may consider a fully remote position.
  • All University of Colorado Boulder employees are required to follow the campus COVID-19 vaccine requirement . New employees must provide proof of vaccination or receive a medical or religious exemption within 30 days of employment.
What We Can Offer

The salary for this 10-month appointment is $60,000. Onboarding assistance is available within department guidelines.

What We Require
  • Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurse’s Credentialing Center (ANCC) by start date.
  • Completion of an accredited nurse practitioner master’s program or higher.
  • Completed all requirements for registration and license as a Registered Nurse from the State of Colorado or a Multicompact State License by start date.
  • Completed all requirements for registration in the State of Colorado as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) by start date.
  • Completed all requirements for Provisional Prescriptive authority (RXN) license from the State of Colorado by start date.
  • Completed all requirements for a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) License by start date.
What You Will Need
  • Effective interpersonal skills and communications skills including cultural competency in working with a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to build and maintain successful collaborative relationships in a diverse campus community.
  • Digital literacy (experience with Windows-based systems).
What We Would Like You to Have
  • Completion of an accredited nurse practitioner doctorate program.
  • Experience working within college mental health settings.
  • Experience working with electronic health records
  • Experience with diagnosis and treatment of ADHD disorders, Eating concerns, and/or Substance Use disorders.
  • Fluency in languages other than English, particularly Spanish, Mandarin, or Arabic.
  • Experience working with ethnic minority and under-served populations.
  • Experience working with international students.
  • Desire to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
