Northwood University seeks an industry thought leader for The Subaru of New England Professor of Automotive Strategy. The professor will teach, conduct research, and engage in industry outreach to positively impact this rapidly-evolving, dynamic, multi-billion-dollar industry. The successful candidate will help ensure that Northwood University offers cutting-edge automotive-related programming.

Based in Midland, Michigan, the ideal candidate would have a significant industry leadership experience and an earned graduated degree in a field related to automotive marketing and management from an accredited institution.

The Subaru of New England Professor of Automotive Strategy will play a critical role in implementing Northwood’s vision to create innovative learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students and enhance professional development in the automotive industry.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with industry professionals and associations to promote the Automotive Marketing and Management program and provide opportunities for student internships and employment.
  • Shape and lead the academic content and quality of the Automotive Marketing and Management program at Northwood University.
  • Teach three Automotive and Mobility courses in each of the fall and spring semester. This includes release time of 3 credit hours per semester to have a demonstrable positive impact on their research and scholarly productivity.
  • Work collaboratively with Academics, Admissions, and Advancement to promote and grow Northwood
  • University’s Automotive Marketing and Management programs through student recruitment and retention, along with alumni and industry support.
  • Supervise student internships and facilitate experiential learning opportunities, such as student participation in industry conferences, site visits, and study abroad experiences.
  • Mentor students to become successful industry professionals.
  • Provide industry thought leadership in a variety of ways, such as: speaking engagements, convening symposiums, podcasts, blogs, publishing in industry-related journals and websites, and publishing industry research.
  • Write thought leadership publications either in scholarly journals or popular press.
  • Provide inputs into creating cutting-edge curricula in Automotive Studies.
  • Advance student research to empower learners to develop skills and an understanding of Automotive Studies to apply that knowledge to practical issues in the automotive industry.
  • Mentor other faculty on how to provide thought leadership across the university.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with the automotive industry through professional associations and networking.
Expectations:

  • Be aware of and follow all University policies and procedures and serve as sound financial stewards.
  • Meet with individual faculty each semester and review performance and goals.
  • Develop mentoring and evaluation programs for adjunct faculty.
  • Provide timely information and reports to the academic deans on program/department activities, issues, and needs.
  • Coordinate activities with other operating units as appropriate.
  • Keep current with industry expectations and regularly review curriculum and course content to ensure that they are reflected therein.
  • Notify the associate academic dean of departmental issues related to faculty and students.
  • Work harmoniously with the other members of the Department and bring to the associate academic dean and academic dean’s attention any issues which may interfere or impair student learning.
  • Focus on methods to keep students engaged in the program.



Qualifications and Experience:
  • An earned graduate degree in a field related to automotive marketing and management from an accredited institution, doctorate preferred. Exceptional candidates without master’s degrees may be considered.
  • History of industry thought leadership demonstrated by speaking engagements and publications.
  • Ten or more years of experience directly related to the automotive industry.
  • Experience with training and/or teaching. (Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses preferred).
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills in a variety of delivery formats.
