Job Description

The University of Missouri Sinclair School of Nursing in Columbia, MO invites applications for a professional Clinical Instructor position. The primary role is education and technical assistance of long-term care (LTC) facility administrative staff about quality improvement practices, latest evidence-based practices in nursing homes and healthcare, and evidence-based organizational improvement practices. This assistance is provided through extensive travel, or by phone, e-mail, webinars, or Zoom. This position predominately serves St. Louis/eastern side of the state of Missouri. Extensive travel will be required; some overnight travel may be necessary. Large and small group public speaking/presentations may be required.

Working knowledge of the required federal nursing home Resident Assessment Instrument Process (RAI) is essential. This includes the Minimum Data Set (MDS), Care Planning, and references to the nursing QIPMO staff for assistance in regard to the required coding and reporting interpretations and regulations. A working knowledge of MDS-derived Quality Measures (QMs) that have been nationally developed and reported to facilities and the public and communication skills to communicate effectively with the administrative nursing home staff to assist them in using the QMs in their practices are a necessity. Applicants need a working knowledge of LTC regulations (both state of Missouri and federal), quality improvement practices, latest administrative evidence-based practices in nursing homes and healthcare, and evidence-based organizational improvement practices, along with a working knowledge of budgeting and reimbursement for nursing homes in Missouri. Applicants need to embrace Culture Change in LTC facilities and have a working knowledge/experience in implementing Culture Change principles in the nursing home. A demonstrated ability to implement planned change and assist administrative and direct care staff to improve systems of care in healthcare organizations is essential.

This job requires the skill to work directly with LTC facility management staff in the implementation of teams for decision-making and quality improvement, as well as the ability to work with all levels of long-term care facility staff to assist them in developing high-performing work teams. Maintaining confidentiality while working with the individual facilities is vital. It is crucial for applicants to have the ability to establish collaborative working relationships with interdisciplinary faculty and research staff at MU to develop needed links with experts in many areas that may be essential to assisting facilities with many different kinds of clinical and organizational practice issues. Applicants will also need to assist with and coordinate building relationships with LTC facilities in MO who participate in MU research projects. Must be able to work collaboratively with the existing MU QIPMO, Leadership Coach, and ICAR team. It is also imperative for candidates to have an ability to establish collaborative working relationships with the staff of the MODHSS and carry out the required work in collaboration with the MODHSS and to develop collaborative relationships with the staff of MO’s nursing home associations and other state agencies that provide services to long-term care facilities.

Candidates are required to complete timely entries into a database of all facility contacts (on-site visits, phone calls, e-mails, virtual visits, etc.)

Qualifications

Mimimum Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Nursing Home Administrator in long-term care (LTC)
  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business, health professions, nursing, or an equivalent combination of education by the time of appointment
  • Licensed Nursing Home Administrator in Missouri

Experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary

The ability to enter text via computer technology for purposes of timely data entry; working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; ability to communicate via zoom or other virtual platforms.
