Position Summary:

Inspects, maintains, and repairs basic equipment and facilities to ensure property meets established standards and to prevent further damage. Assists with construction, and operational maintenance as needed.

Must pass a pre-work screen to ensure the ability to perform essential physical functions of the position. Must have a valid WI driver’s license and be authorized to drive a University vehicle upon appointment. This position will require a criminal background investigation.

Responsibilities
  • Utilizes tools & equipment to repair and maintain standard machinery, equipment, and facility property to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation.
  • Performs routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness.
  • Troubleshoots, escalates, and documents issues according to established policies and procedures.
  • Performs maintenance to the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems throughout the campus.
  • Assist grounds with lawn care and snow removable as needed.
  • Performs the maintenance and repair of interior and exterior doors and windows including their related hardware.
  • Performs routine repairs to various structural and cosmetic components such as roofing, windows, concrete, drywall, and interior finishes.
  • Assists other departments as needed to ensure the buildings and grounds are clean and safe at all times.

Qualifications
Required:

Must have sufficient physical flexibility to squat, stoop, crawl under cabinets and other low and confined spaces in order to complete assigned work.

Ability to perform physical labor including: heavy lifting, bending, stooping, twisting and other motions.

Ability to climb stairs, ladders (8 & 10 ft), extension ladders, scaffolding, automated scissor-lift, bucket truck and reach above head in order to work on projects and to complete work performed on interior and exterior of campus buildings.

Physical ability to stand and/or walk for long periods of time.

Ability to perform duties within extreme hot and cold temperature ranges, dusty and dirty work environments to complete job assignments.

Work experience using and operating a wide variety of hand (e.g. hammers, saws, pry bars) and power tools (e.g. pneumatic hammer, hammer drills, core drills, skill saw, sawzall, block saw, tile cutter, table saw, pneumatic staplers and nailers) to perform construction and demolition projects.

Work experience with the repair of basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems found within commercial buildings.

Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred:

Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions related to building remodeling and construction.

Experience operating grounds equipment (e.g. tractors, mowers, chain saws).

Experience with the install and repair of drywall, ceiling tile, vinyl and ceramic tile.

Ability to read, follow instructions and keep accurate records.

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.

Ability to follow and work within guidelines as established by the department; be prompt and recognize start, break and quitting times.

Ability to organize work, perform work assignments and maintain truck, tools and work area in a clean well organized manner.
