Position Summary

The faculty support specialist provides support to faculty, students, and staff by implementing and administering day-to-day course support for Rice Business academic programs. This role serves as a liaison to ensure the efficient administration and delivery of Rice Business courses and related services to both faculty and students. Position responsibilities include a mix of traditional course/teaching support including but not limited to Canvas management, grade entry, room reservations, process course information and materials needs as well as an external-facing component that requires direct interaction with classroom guest speakers. The faculty support specialist is expected to work closely with faculty and staff to maintain a high-level understanding of program and course logistics, policies, and procedures.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree
    • In lieu of the education requirement, additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis may be substituted
Essential Functions
  • Implements, administers and evaluates day-to-day business and administrative activities of the function or program
  • Manages course Canvas sites – duties include but are not limited to creating assignments, uploading files, creating announcements, entering grades, and posting syllabi.
  • Provides input on the budget, budget planning and other financial matters
  • Assists in managing faculty services auxiliary budget
  • Organizes, manages and completes special projects
  • Collects and analyzes data, creates reports, reviews and explains trends; formulates and evaluates alternative solutions and recommendations to achieve the goals of the program or function
  • Analyzes and interprets policies; develops, revises and implements procedures
  • Plans and implements outreach activities that may include communications, events, training, conferences, and fundraising
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
Additional Functions
  • Manages all course preparation, coordinating faculty to meet course deadlines set by the associate registrar and student program office
  • Manages course breakout room logistics & scheduling conflicts
  • Manages purchases for faculty and courses
  • Generates routine communications and coordinates production and distribution of documents such as course handouts, syllabi, and recommendation letters
  • Assists faculty with research, service, or other special projects as delegated by faculty services team lead
  • Coordinates IT, AV, software, and simulation needs for courses

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Preferences
  • Experience working with the Canvas system
  • Experience working with faculty or higher education course support
  • Experience working with reimbursements processing, reconciling accounts, purchasing and budgets.
  • Served as an expert resource to other staff and faculty.
  • Demonstrated creativity, problem solving, critical analysis, initiative, judgment and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and meet budget goals
