Position Summary

The Paleoclimate Dynamics Lab in the Department of Geology at the University at Buffalo (UB) is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Associate to join an NSF -funded project to explore patterns and processes of rapid Arctic warming events by combining paleoclimate proxies and models . The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be based at the University at Buffalo, but will collaborate closely with grant partners at Northern Arizona University.

Job duties and responsibilities include:
  • Generate and interpret, using traditional frameworks and proxy system models, high-resolution lipid biomarker and compound-specific stable isotope records from lakes around the Arctic Ocean seaboard.
  • Along with the rest of the project team, improve understanding of the mechanisms behind Arctic climate responses to rapid warming.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. degree in earth sciences, (paleo)climate science, geochemistry, atmospheric sciences, or a related field at the time of appointment
  • Leadership in scientific peer-reviewed publications
  • Experience, as demonstrated by presentations and/or publications, generating and interpreting lipid biomarker and/or stable isotope paleoclimate proxy records
  • Experience with, or at minimum interest in learning how to use, proxy system models
  • Experience with, or interest in learning, scientific computing (e.g., R, Matlab, Python, etc.)
