    The Division of Undergraduate Education and Student Success (UESS) promotes academic excellence, universal access, engagement, and achievement for the student scholar.     Position Summary

    The Coordinator for Identity-Based Academic and Residential Programs (CIBARP) contributes to the strategic support, coordination, and administration of identity-based academic initiatives in University Housing. This position also plays a key role in maintaining collaborations with partners across campus. The Coordinator is responsible for the unit, department, and divisional support related to their functional area. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Academic Residential and Research Initiatives (ADARRI) and will have oversight of student employees. The coordinator serves on the Academic Residential and Research Initiatives (ARRI) team, a joint unit within the Division of Undergraduate Education and Student Success (UESS), and University Housing Residence Life. The ARRI team is overseen by the Assistant Vice Provost for Undergraduate Research and Distinguished Scholarships (AVPURDS) and Director of Academic Residential and Research Initiatives (DARRI).

    This position will coordinate programmatic-level recruitment, admissions, orientation, co-curriculum, community development, student engagement, and resource referrals for the cohort of identity-based living-learning communities (LLCs) at the University of Oregon. These programs include Academic Residential Communities (ARCs) and Residential or specialized communities (RCs). The Program Coordinator serves as the primary contact for constituents of the identity-based LLCs and assumes a central role in sustaining existing programs and in the implementation of new initiatives within their functional area. The Coordinator provides direct support to event coordination, course, and meeting scheduling, project management, data collection, document creation, creation of training and workshops, communications, and ongoing annual operational processes such as LLCs admission and enrollment, hiring and selection of student employees, and drafting of Memoranda of Understanding.

    The Coordinator also has opportunities to develop new organizational processes, serve on departmental and campus-wide committees and participate in developing and administering program-based assessments. They represent their functional area at recruitment and orientation events and utilize a variety of educational technologies and web-based data management systems.

    The Coordinator will serve on the Academic Residential Community Council and provide administrative support with the ARC proposals relating to identity-based community development.

    The Coordinator assumes a central role in supporting the ADARRI with the ongoing development and integration of equity-centered retention outcomes with academic initiatives and partnerships.

    The successful Coordinator will exhibit integrity, collegiality in a team environment, and the ability to create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive atmosphere in the office. This person will demonstrate strong administrative skills, communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills, as well as a strong commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    While serving as a formal liaison to offices and programs across campus the Coordinator will have responsibilities for broadly advancing work around the following equity gaps/challenges the identity-based programs are uniquely designed to affect through early intervention:
  • Finding a sense of community
  • Finding a sense of belonging
  • Social capital barriers created by ethnic, racial, linguistic, gender, and cultural norms of PWI/HWI
  • Finding appropriate mentors, advocates, campus resources, mental health and counseling resources
  • Finding opportunities to engage with appropriate alumni and community members/elders
  • Finding relevant curriculum during the first year and beyond
  • Early introductions and relational engagement with academic, research, scholarship, and career programs

    Minimum Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree, OR an equivalent amount of experience, training, or education
  • One year of full-time or two years of part-time work experience in higher education, cultural centers, residence life, undergraduate education, student life, or related field
  • Experience serving BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ students

    Professional Competencies

  • Ability to assess and meet the needs of a wide variety of people while recognizing the needs of BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ students at the University of Oregon
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with colleagues
  • Effective communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated record of advocating, promoting, and implementing equity, inclusion, and diversity initiatives
  • Experience with student leadership roles (e.g. Resident Assistants, clubs) and/or student employees
  • Experience with residence life
  • Experience with Academic Initiatives in the Residence Hall environment
  • Experience collaborating with faculty on curriculum and co-curriculum development
  • Experience participating in student recruitment and yield events
  • Proficiency with data management (e.g. Qualtrics, Navigate, Banner, Excel)
  • Experience with quantitative or qualitative assessment
  • Experience with budget management and financial record keeping
  • Experience with event planning and management
