The Department of Communication and Journalism specializes in three areas — Digital Journalism and Media, Professional Communication and Strategic Communication.

Job Description

The Department of Communication and Journalism invites applications for a ranked, non-tenure track, full-time Assistant Teaching Professor/Digital Media Lab Director position beginning in the 2023-2024 academic year. Responsibilities will include teaching in fall, spring and summer semesters in the undergraduate communication and journalism programs; supervising the operation of the department’s digital media lab; and assisting faculty and students with the use of the lab and equipment. This position has been created to further the department’s mission of adapting and applying new technologies in digital media/journalism, reporting for social media, data journalism, AI, drone technology, data visualization, and AR/VR. The Department of Communication and Journalism is committed to excellence in teaching, research and service. Minimum Qualifications
  • The successful candidate has a minimum of a master’s degree in journalism, mass communication, or related field by the start date.
  • The successful candidate will be able to teach undergraduate courses in digital, mobile or emerging journalism, and to able to develop new courses in this field, if requested.
  • The successful candidate should have a deep understanding of how to use equipment essential to digital video and audio journalism, mobile journalism, social media and emerging media platforms.
  • The successful candidate will assist the department in choosing and developing practical applications that will assist students in understanding and using select technologies of emerging journalism.
  • The successful candidate will commit to creating a nurturing environment through teaching and supervising that serves a student body from differing backgrounds, enhances the experience of first-generation college students, embraces sustainability and is mindful of social justice.
Full Time/Part Time

This is a 12-month, full-time, ranked non-tenure track academic faculty appointment eligible for benefits. There is opportunity for ranked promotion. The position begins fall semester 2023. Our academic workload and schedule provide for a positive work/life balance.


Salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
